Zig zags are like stripes' crazy cousin. The pattern works so amazingly well in all of these interiors, it has us wondering why we haven't incorporated zig zags into our own home...

• 1 You may have seen this one before: it's Mark Chamberlain's free-hand zig zag wall in Farrow and Ball's luscious, London Clay
• 2 a soft blue zig-zag-painted floor by Mary McDonald
• 3 a bedroom makeover by The Cultivated Home
• 4 Zigzag rug at West Elm, $39 to $649 for 2'x3' to 9'x12'
• 5 a zig zag / floral mix; image: Paul Costello for Domino
Not enough zig zags for your Friday morning? See more on Apartment Therapy's zig zag roundup.
I really like the first and third examples.

Sure, let's paint some stripes, then go to Studio 54 to hang out with Mick and Liza and Andy.

Not pleasing to my eyes. Reminds me of the last joie de vivre hotel I stayed in... a small room with big pattern made me dizzy.

I've been reading design books from the late 70s and can't tell whether I like the retro 70s look or not. Certainly the rooms look better when there's not a Hugh Hefner wannabe in an unbuttoned satin shirt lolling in a plexiglass swing. I think it would be fun to go to a party in one of these rooms, but not necessarily live in.
The Miles Redd room, though, is exquisite, and I'm ready to move right in.

I would kill myself if I had to live in that first room.
