apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Home of Kate and Andy Spade
Habitually Chic

Kate and Andy Spade are one of the most celebrated designer couples of our time. They create everything from shoes, bags, and jewelry, to home linens and accessories. Kate and Andy are distinct in their feminine and masculine points of view, but their styles come together with playful use of color and heaps of vintage influence.

It comes as no surprise that the living spaces of this pair are as stylish as are their retail offerings. Along with interior designer Steven Sclaroff, the Spades have created a beautiful home with a decidedly personal vibe. Images of the apartment have been featured in many publications, and our friends over at Habitually Chic collected them. We have chosen the best of the bunch to share with you, and especially love the bold colors, collages of wall art, and graphic patterns used throughout the space.

Love, love, love! Bright colors abide.

(Seriously awkward portrait, though.)

The photo of Kate & Andy is wonderfully awkward...almost Tina Barney-ish.

Love, love, love the artwork. Who is the artist of the red/white abstract painting in the dining room shot?

Thanks for linking to my post. The photo is my Tina Barney and was featured in the New York magazine article recently about the Spades.

That's what I'll be channeling next time I'm to be in a photo ... (ick it)... "Oh, do it for Tina Barney!". LOL.
Acid yellow of bedspread... surprisingly great.

Are these the same Spades that hand in the redesign of the Liquor/J. Crew Store?

beautiful home--unfortunately it looks like the owners won't be enjoying it together for long.

Love it. Seems so haphazard that it's hard to imaging they had a designer working on it - which I think is great.... so lived in and personal.

These photos have been cycling through the blogs for ages. I've been OBSESSED with the photo in the bedroom (man, arm raised, yellow-obscured face) ever since it first appeared on AT a bunch of years ago.

Can anyone source it?

I am trying to guess who's bedroom is who's. The teal and yellow might be his bedroom but she is wearing the same colors in the photo.

I love the kitchen and the larger bedroom. Otherwise, it looks like an wealthy elderly NY couples apartment. Except the art is exceptional and makes it.

This looks like two different homes. Half of it is heavy and staid, the other half is chic and capricious. What gives?

Just noticed that the famed photo over the (yellow) headboard is the same photo that's in the entryway.

Seriously overdecorated. Who ever needs TWO globes and five candlesticks on his desk? Throw out 90 % of the tchotchkes, store and rotate 90 % of the art on the walls.

I don't really love it. Too many frames frames frames everywhere. And it doesn't seem very cohesive. I guess I'm missing something.

I love the placement of all of their art on the walls. It's a great look...not easy to do without it looking like a gallery. Very charming!

They seem like the pinnacle of NY glamour to me and I love seeing them looking as awkward and rumpled as the all the working artists and frumpy academics I know. Now I love them even more. But I can't afford her shoes.

It's fun seeing their home, but I would shoot my self if I had to live in all that clutter. It's just TOO MUCH STUFF. I like a much simpler style. I grew up in a space like this, and I now have an aversion to it. But to each his own.

I love how they've updated traditional UES style with contemporary art and color choices. It's brilliant.

Team Decor -- did you really grow up with museum-quality antiques and art? Can I have it when you inherit it? I'll trade you for all the teak Danish modern coming my way.
