apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

My Secret Resource:

Duane Reade for plastic dinosaurs that I scatter around my apartment -- on shelves, the lips of potted plants, etc. My parents: they know how to do everything! My mom made all of our clothes, grew sprouts on a sponge, painted every room in the house and knows how to wield a sledgehammer. I need to tap into her vast knowledge at least once a day. My dad is a master carpenter, fine artist, and horticulturist (aka 'the plant whisperer'). Collectively they've taught me how to garden, cook, sew, build anything, demolish stuff, and generally function.

Biggest DIY Inspiration:

Friends Kirsten & John who go junking/tag sale-ing and make everything else in their house. Although it's not remotely fussy, they approach the decor of their house like a museum: grains are stored in used glass bottles and stashed in beautifully aged wooden crates. They make all of their own lighting by refurbishing old lamps and making shades out of unexpected materials. They inspired me to make a lamp out of a tea canister:LINK HERE.
