I was at the Gift Fair this week when I came around a corner on the lower floor and ran into some beautiful bedding that I'd never seen before. Turns out it was a new line by Kelly Wearstler with Sferra, and it wasn't over the top and crazy like her outfits on Top Design. Here are the first pics...
In fact, she's moving quickly away from the high drama of the Hollywood Regency style into something that I like a lot more - a subtler, richer and more organic style. Keehnan did a nice job of blogging this move in September: The 70s: Kelly Wearstler's Next Big Thing
Here are some pics that I took (forgive the poor lighting), and some that I got from her studio.

There are two lines, a blueish one (cool) and a browner one (warm). These will all come out in March at Neiman Marcus. Enjoy!

the bed pictured above was gorgeous in person....pin-tucked bluish linen with a little bit of sparkle....really special!

Oh, Kelly...your North Myrtle Beach, SC roots are showing!

That top photo has a pinky-mauve undertone that, along with the rounded edges, squiggles and striations (and the gold squares on the screen, and the bleached or pickled wood side table), evokes the worst part of 1980's style. It was awful the first time around.

Kelly is from N. Myrtle Beach??? I'm a SC girl. I had no idea she was.
I got one of her books about a year ago. Its fun to look at, and I do get some inspiration from it, BUT a lot of it is too much to even think about for real life.
I like this stuff though.

Hey mymurray...I'm a Charleston boy myself! And proud of SC, just kind of funny that Kelly W cultivates an ultra-fancy persona nowadays. But I was a little off, Kelly W's from just plain old Myrtle Beach. And did you know, she was Playboy Playmate of the Month for Sept. '94?!

Loving the rug. Any idea if that is her design and if so who makes it?

Playmate of the month for '94? That explains it. Reliving her heyday.

Sorry, this collection does nothing for me.

I would rather solid bedding than this print collection. I do love the screen in the first pic. That seems to not be too far from Hollywood regency. I have read on this site that when something hits the department store, that the style is on it's way out. Does that mean that this will be short lived? I hope so.

Seaside, It looks like Angela Adams (and if not, if you like that then you'll like her stuff).

Wearstler should go back to doing porn, at least she was good at it.

I love the blue on the room divider. Does anyone know what color that is?
Kelly perhaps?
Love how it is mixed with the gold trims!

I'm sorry but Kelly's designs may be quirky and stuck in bad era's, but she's not afraid to use color, fabric and mood to tell a story or evoke a certain feelings. Sounds like some people in the forum have personal hatred. Wonder what your bedrooms look like?
