I've been scouring the internets looking for more information about the ElectroChef Electric Stove — spotted on notcot.org, the vintage beauty was manufactured by Electromaster, Inc., of Detroit in the early 1930s.

Two online sources credit the ElectroChef to designer Warren Nobel. Blogs are good for pictures (but not necessarily accurate information — a few called the oven a small refrigerator!). While we didn't find a lot of substantial information, what we did find is credited below:

Cool! But the space below the cooktop is just wasted. Why not include an oven?

"Why not include an oven?"
Because the designer didn't want the housefrau to have to bend over to get her cookies?
Back when electrical appliances like these were first made at the beginning of the 20th Century, there was very little thought given to space-efficiency...

This is a great design, and looks as if it would be highly suitable for contemporary barrier-free all ages design. It also would be easier to keep clean than most contemporary ranges, as the sides and underneath are acessible.
The older I get, the less I like bending down to deal with heavy things in the oven. From the middle of the 19th century and all through the 20th, there was attention paid to efficiency, and thoughtfulness towards the spine and shoulders of the person doing the daily cooking (which entails far more than a sheet of cookies) is more than I see in many kitchens today.

I do love that! What a great inspiration for a modern designer! By the way, isn't that box on the right an oven?

I'm sure most pans would never fit into that oven, but it sure is cute!

Great little vintage stove!

Adorable! I have a 50 year old Caloric about 4 times bigger than this, with a wonderful wide top that you can set pans on when they come out of the oven. I love old "cookers".
