Speaking of amazing reader-submitted painting projects, Maude sent in her inspiring Mondrian-themed kitchen this afternoon. She says:
Hey there! I wanted to share with you some pictures of my Mondrian kitchen wall. As a big Mondrian fan, I also dreamed of doing something around it and I finally move in a new place that was perfect for my idea. We did by hand with tape and patience, it took us about one day and on the second we did some little touch up. We're extremely happy with the result!

The light in the room is fantastic.
Is there a chandelier out of view? If none, a white one would be great.

I imagine this is what the cafeteria in the Bauhaus looked like.
(Looks great!)

Powerful and clean. Love it.

I'm curious to know whether you also incorporated what is often uncelebreated in Mondrian's work -- the brush strokes and textures in those color blocks. For example, is the white flat and smooth, but the red made special by pronounced horizontal brush strokes?

Does any one remember the bus in the television show The Partridge Family? The wall's colours and graphic design reminds me of it.

Hey! Thank you all! To respond to Kim, no particular brush stroke were actually used since wall and canvas wouldn't respond the same anyway and we also wanted to make sure every color would be bold.

My childhood neighbors had created a Mondrian kitchen floor from primary colored vinyl. It was fabulous.

I think this is great, Maude.

You are lucky to have a great space to accommodate the look. I don't think a room lacking good sunlight would be able to pull the wall off as well as yours does. Excellent job, Maude! :)

This looks completely sensational. Absolutely beautiful. Fabulous colors; wonderful proportions. Be VERY proud of yourself. But I beg you -- PLEASE do not hang "art" on top of it. It IS art. It's sensational. If you hang "art" on it, it will become the equivalent of a whatnot shelf.

Speechless. To be able to visualize your art-influenced idea is one thing. To realize your idea is a whole different story. Well executed.

Don't worry, I will never hang anything on it!

I think it is incredible. I love seeing people doing the Curtis thing and painting their own "wallpaper". Gorgeous.
