Let the Light Shine In: Stained Glass Windows

I adore stained glass windows in homes. In fact, it was primarily because of the stained glass window in the bathroom that I fell in love with my old studio apartment in Brooklyn, instantly — okay, that and the huge bay windows, the ornate architectural details and the reasonable rent.

I have since moved and love our home sans any stained glass windows but someday I think it would be a cool project to replace our bathroom window or even our bathroom door with one that I could install with some colored glass. We all can't be lucky enough to live in a renovated old church with windows already in place but wouldn't pretty stained glass be better than plain frosted?

ooooh I love these homes! We just bought a home in an old neighborhood where most of the homes have stained glass- even the more shabby ones! Like you- it was a huge reason I love the charm our place has!

I'm envious of any home that has stained glass windows...so charming! They're all beautiful, but I love the simplicity of the fourth photo.

I love stained glass windows as well. I recently commissioned a stained glass window ("Montauk" by Robert Oddy) for my mom as a gift and there is nothing more wonderful than the way the light is filtered in color into the room. For those of us in apartments, a stained glass lamp or hanging window can give the same effect.

We installed some antique stained glass windows between our master bedroom and the hallway. Using them on an exterior wall in a cold climate is a bad idea, so we put them where we could enjoy them from both sides. They're like little jewels in the morning.

One of my favorite moments from renovating my last home-we tore down some old panelling from the top floor to discover a small rectangular stained glass window at the very top of the wall. Some previous owner had decided to hide the little treasure beneath the paneling and siding on the outside.

We ended up rebuilding the whole room to showcase it.
