icff-2009.jpgAnglepoise is back! The original design, over seventy years old based on a simple spring mechanism, AND on which Luxo was based is now available right from the source at a good price. We spent some time chatting with the rep and it was so nice to hear their story right from the horses mouth.

More info and pics below...

They sell the original 1227 design as well as a number of updated designs. They carry many colors and they also sell the big one.

"Early in 1934, having signed a licensing agreement with George Carwardine, Herbert Terry and Sons Ltd launched the original 4 spring Anglepoise industrial lamp at the British Industries Fair.

Working with George, Terry’s had perfected the method of producing springs to the exacting specification required to obtain perfect balance. The outcome of further collaboration was seen later in 1934 when George applied for his patent for the light with 3 springs mounted at the base, later marketed by Terry’s as the Anglepoise 1227.

During its life, the Anglepoise has been seen firstly as an engineering concept, secondly as a lighting system and finally as a designer brand. Nowadays at 75 years old, it is recognised as an icon not only by the design cognoscenti, but also by the general public."
