Best of Three: Pendant Lamps

We're somewhat fascinated by Cecile Manz's series of Caravaggio Pendant Lights. We've spotted them in Shawn Henderson's office and at Wildwood BBQ in the past few weeks. With the newest offerings from CB2, we're treated to a similar-style pendant that inspired this Best of Three...

The XL P4 Caravaggio Pendant (21.55" diameter) is available for $795 in a white or black metal shade from Ylighting. Be sure to see our post that covers all of the sizes of Caravaggio.

The Industry Pendant from CB2 measures 20.25" in diameter. Available in black powder-coated metal for $199.

The 15" diameter MELODI from IKEA features a white plastic shade and is $19.99. (A smaller MELODI shade without the ceiling fixture is only $9.99.)

The bulbous curve of the CB2 is much sexier. They seem to have stooped designing the Caravaggio about halfway down.

Uggg... is this even a serious question? Carravaggio is gorgeous, proportioned, and elegant right down to the attachment of the crisp red wire. Despite being plastic the IKEA version does a miles better job than the...rubenesque...CB2.

And whats with CB2 anyway? Do they have any originality at ALL these days? Seems like they read DWR's catalogue and systematically knock things off. Such a shame for a company that 'promotes' design.
