It looks like the good people at Vessel have improved the original design to make them a little more environmentally friendly. Instead of having to recycle the entire lamp when the battery no longer holds a reasonable charge, you can simply replace a pop-out battery.
We met the Vessel founders, Stefane and Duane, last year at ICFF and are not surprised that they are already improving what ain't really broken. They are constantly coming up with new things. (Thanks, Christian!) MGR

hmm, i got the kid's version (candeloo) for my nephews and was not impressed. they used NiCAD, an old battery technology that has a memory requiring the user to be very conscious of levels of charge and discharge. the battery remembers where it was left off and dies accordingly and eventually refuses to charge altogether. if they had used NiMH batteries, we would have a longer lasting, more reliable, and more user friendly product. perhaps there are issues with the 'touchless' charging system, but i felt this product was broken as soon as i read the directions and had to apologize for giving my sister's family a pain in the neck.
