Pretty swish

It looks awful in person, unfortunately. The "horn" is very obviously plastic. I knew it wasn't real horn before I went to see it, but I didn't expect it to look like a $20 plastic lamp. There's not enough variation in the coloring of the pieces, so it doesn't look at all like it's made of organic material (which is generally the point when making things from horn, bone, tortoiseshell, etc.). Disappointing!

It looks dated. And not in a good way.

I was just in West Elm on Sunday and this was one of the few things that I actually liked. As Anna said, it doesn't look like it is made from horn but then again I didn't know that it was suppose to. I just thought it was suppose to look like some cool transparent bakelite or whatever.

I don't know about other people, but I'm over West Elm.

Loved the lamp though.

That's funny, Brooke -- I wonder if I would have had a different opinion of the lamp if I hadn't gone there expecting it to look like horn (I specifically went there to look at that lamp after seeing it on their site).

I've definitely found some very nice accessories (a couple of vases, a blanket, some pillows) at West Elm over the past few years, but I find the quality and design of their furniture to be way out of sync with the prices.

I agree that some of the accessories are nice, but I only buy them if they are on sale (and almost all of their accessories go on sale at some point).

Seen better for cheaper on eBay...

This is a real problem with most "retro" -- that it to say recreations of mid-century modern objects -- contemporary materials don't do them justice -- at least the cheap ones. And as stated above, West Elm prices are way out of whack with the quality. Have their buyers/designers ever been to Ikea? Or CB2 for that matter . . .

This lamp would have been better in multicolor plastics -- both more true to the originals and more fun!!!

OMIGOD, they have no shame. That design is about 40 years old. It's a total copy!

The price point on West Elm items has slowly been ticking up while the quality of the finishes has slowly gotten worse. They are landing in a really weird spot where they aren't great enough to warrant the price and they aren't cheap enough to warrant the compromise.

That's a sexy lamp. (I'm not a West Elm-hater.)

I couldn't be happier with the appearance and usefulness of this pendant lights. My husband received it yesterday as a Christmas gift from me. He said it was beautiful. The only I don't want is the time when kids try to make this fixture like a toy.
