French Jam Jar Lights at The Collection

07.30.collection3.jpg

Cottage-style lighting made of french jam jars and metal coffee filters. Earlier today we looked at the common reuse of jam jars as drinking glasses. This less common reuse can be found at the French shop The Collection, which ships worldwide. Or we wonder if similar lights could be made yourself. Check out the table lamp and pendant versions after the jump:

These are simply adorable.

Cute, but what does it look light when turned on?

Probably like a light bulb inside of an orange marmalade jar. I'm keen on re-purposing, but this is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.

I thought the first picture was a showerhead at first

insanely cute. I see them sort of clustered together - staggered in height and jar size. I love!

I'm sorry. These look like diy gone bad.

I'm worried that it would get very hot inside and the glass would shatter.

And wouldn't the light be awfully glaring?

I like the top one, but the rest, not so much. And yes, heat is definitely going to be an issue.

The middle picture shows that there are ventilation holes in the top, apparently made with a can opener...

This would go great with the bicycle wheel pot holder.

I actually made 3 lamps similar to those posted above out of some prett[ier] sauce and jam glass jars; they came out quite nicely! Just make sure to put in a nice looking (fluorescent!) light bulb and the fluorescent bulbs are cooler than incandescent so overheating is not much of a problem - just create a few holes in the lid to vent it.

This immediately strikes me as the kind of project that's rather cute if you DIY and you have the right sort of funky home for it... but buying one made with a new jam jar might put a person into poseur territory.
