Drink up the light. Some ideas are so simple and offer such a twist on the everyday that you just want to try them (or make your own). The Glasklasen Chandelier is one of these. Designed by a group of Swedish architect/designers (Bjrn Stillefors, Gunnar Cedervall and Jrgen Pudeck) the idea came from a round, wooden stem holder Gunnar had hanging in his kitchen.
The first thought was to put a light in it and the next thought was to extend the glasses down into a chandelier shape and enclose the light.
The Glasklasen is made to be used and colored glasses are suggested for special occasions. Crystal glasses are recommended for extra sparkle. Available through nasielsky.se. (via Metropolis) MGR

Great place to stick those cheap to buy one-off orphan glasses too
Do you use your own glasses with this? As in, can you remove the wineglasses from the light fixture and have a glass of wine, then hang it up again?
I don't know -- this seems to be one of those things that's cool in theory, but rather awkward/useless (and gross -- dusty glasses!) in practice.
I think it's great! I am always having to find storage solutions for my ever growing wine glass collection. It would be fun hung over a buffet table, where guest could just reach up and grab a glass.
Also, wouldn't removing a glass throw the whole thing off balance?
Pretty, though.
I agree with Karen, unless there is a counterbalance, it's like jenga.
It would be a great conversation piece and would be a great place for those mismatch pieces that seem to collect.
However, city living is too dusty to make this functional in my apartment.
It hangs from a solid pole. Besides, don't you think the designers might consider such things as balance? As far as dust, that's what dishwashers are for (even if it's your significant other). I have a old family chandelier and it's a bitch to clean. This would be much easier.
A great conversation starter, no doubt. But here are my reservations... the dust, exposing your kitchen/bar clutter, what is the appropriate height to hang such a piece and where? (head clearance vs. accessability), the oops factor (would your really risk breaking your expensive crystal stemware for a look?)... and finally, living in earthquake country, this looks like big post-quake mess waiting to happen. (I know, having lived through both the big SF and Northridge quakes in the past 15 years.) I often feel that with some conceptual pieces, the joke is on the end-user. Don't get me wrong, I love and can appreciate a lot of conceptual pieces (ie Droog Design), but for me this chandelier doesn't seem... uh, well-concepted. Plus, it just doesn't look that attractive to me. I'd be very surprised if this piece won any kind of design awards.
it seems most commentators have not really tried using the "glasklasen chandelier" (glasklase="bunch of glasses", from "bunch of grapes", in Swedish), which gives me an urge to contribute some user info.
1. it is anything but "awkward/useless" in practice. on the contrary, it keeps glasses where you need them.
2. removing a glass throw the whole thing off balance. it moves the slightest little bit, that's all.
3. unless you use the glasses, they do get dusty. i would definitely recommend using the glasses and hanging only the glasses you use, if you know what i mean. not for people showing off their fancy crystal, no.
So were can I purchase this chandelier?
Thanks!!
So were can I purchase this chandelier?
Where can I buy it!! I can't find anyplace that sells it.
I'm looking to purchase this as well, but can't find any distrubuters in the U.S. Any suggestions?
I do not agree with the naysayers. I live in the ultimate earthquacke city (San Francisco) and this seems much safer than storing glasses on an open or closed shelf. If it sways a little that's even better. As for dust, drink up people! It is meant to be used, not useless.
I so want this, where can I find this in Kansas
Anybody awake up there? Where can you find this?!?
You can purchase this at www.pid.se.
You can also get it at gnr8.biz. It had the best price that I found. Here's the product link: http://www.gnr8.biz/product_info.php?products_id=44
