Heike Buchfelder: Pluma Cubic Feathered Lighting

5_25_heike2.jpg
Dept. of just one more. These are luscious and ridiculous. See them before Lenny Kravitz buys them all. Feathered lighting from German, Heike Buchfelder, and shown in Milan last month. The series is called Pluma Cubic. The white pendant is made of goose feathers (2900 euro). (via Wallpaper) MGR

Geez, how many innocent birds had to be slaughtered for these hideous dust collectors?

Gosh, even more furnishings for the Sesame Street apartment... but Big Bird might balk.

Too bad they are feathers -- it just seems a little wrong. They're beautiful though...

a stark modern interior, very wallpaper.

Lenny can have them all as far as I am concerned.

Ebert and pphillipp give them two thumbs down. All I can smell is dust and dead pigeons...

Swoon! buy vintage feathered hats on ebay and make your own. Easy-ish project.

Good idea, Todd. Or attach feathers to Ikea lamps.

They wouldn't be dusty... just use your er... feather duster!

Remember that naturally-shed feathers are obtainable, too. I make things with antlers which have been naturally shed.

I think the hanging one is great. It looks like one of those Dr. Seussian flowers. (What are they called?)

I love the idea of taking old hats and repurposing them... My great aunt had dozens of hats, and we just have them in a closet somewhere...

Lori--
I hope you didn't make that comment from beneath a lofty, lovely down and goosefeather comforter! ;)

I seem to remember designer Benjamin Noriega Ortiz using feathered lampshades to great effect. I think he is a fan of taking an off-the-shelf lamp (the one I remember was a silvered/mercury glass base from Crate & Barrel) and feathering the shade, sometimes by wrapping a pre-made boa around it.
