Jazzy Lights: Plexiglass

2005_3_2_goodlight (2).jpg 2005_3_2_goodlight.jpg
Sneaked. Last weekend we saw a great concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center's new home in the Time Warner building (Wynton's orchestra is HOT!) and had to snap a pic of their wacky use of plexiglass. Photos are forbidden, so it was sort of an odd angle.

In the beautiful new main theater - Rose Hall - the main lighting comes from large milky plexiglass boxes hanging from the ceiling. The initial color of the lights was horrible (very primary), but then it surprised us by changing a number of times to some really nice combinations (see above). Hey, that's what you can do with Plexiglass. MGR

That looks like the work of Colorkinetics, a Boston-based LED lighting company. It's truly amazing to watch the colors change. I have employed the same lighting in my loft, and also encased it in Plexiglas. I will certainly post pictures when it's finished, for comments, questions, etc.

If you visit colorkinetics.com you'll see their offerings. The lights are terribly easy to set up, and insanely cool. All that coolness don't come cheap though, expect to pay between 75-150 per fixture for a standard interior fixture. The power supplies will run upwards of $249, but they power a lot of lights, so you may only need one.
