lightinglogo.gifThere are many places to buy lighting, but we have found that for a wide selection, reduced prices and great local service, Lighting By Gregory on the Bowery is our top pick. Online ordering is good, but if you need to see and feel the object, in-store is better...

Choosing lighting is daunting, and Lighting By Gregory is a little like looking for cheese at Zabar's: if you know what you want it is easy; if you don't, it can be overwhelming. Therefore, we recommend narrowing down your search as much as possible before you go in and ASK FOR HELP. The people at Lighting by Gregory are not shysters, and have been very helpful every time we've been there.

Lighting By Gregory sells a very wide range of brands, from designer lighting such as Flos and Artemide to more rough and ready names such as WAC and Juno. They sell wall fixtures, floor lamps, under-counter lights, track lights and more. They also do a big business in ceiling fans.

Of course, if you need to "see and feel" the object, wait 'til it's been turned off for a while! :oD

Really? This store was my absolute worst shopping experience ever in NY. I was looking for a ceiling fan and went to their store. The lady in the fan department seemed peeved I was there and spent 20 minutes on a personal phone call.
When I started asking her questions she seemed totally uninterested in helping me. I found a fan I kind of liked and asked her if it was in stock (I was eager to get a fan that day). She wanted me to fill out an order form (complete with credit card info) before she checked the store room.
When I told her I didn't necessarily buy it, I just wanted to confirm whether it was in stock and then make the decision. She rolled her eyes and got pissed. Hello?! Since when is it so hard to check if something is in stock? There was no one else in the store - they weren't busy at all.
Plus their prices are high and their return policy is miserable.
Worst shopping ever. I ended up getting a fan online.

Lighting by Gregory sucks. Sales people not helpful at all, wouldn't return calls to my designer. Maybe with the current economic situation it's changed? Anyway, I wound up picking out all my lighting there (complete 1 BR renovation) and buying it elsewhere. And when I was done, I told the owner. His loss!

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! Lighting by Gregory is a complete ripoff. They advertised a ceiling fan with a specific wall controler. I call the Co befor ordering to verifiy that indeed this wall controler came with the fan. Well, it did not and now they say it's a typo?? on the web site. And now because I partially installed the fan, they won't take it back.

Contacting customer service is slow, slow. All communication is done through the Co web site and it takes a day or two to get a response to each question or concern. It took me a week just to have a 3 line conversation with someone.

Very unhelpfull, very evasive, unaccomidating and very, very slow!!!
