Moragas Table Lamp with Tape Shade

The Moragas Table Lamp was designed by Antoni de Moragas in 1957. The odd proportions of a slender wooden base column (3.5" diameter) and the extra-wide shade (17.5" diameter) made us look twice - but it is the unique shade made from cotton and silk book-binding tape that really caught our attention...

As a desk lamp, postcards and memos can be stored in between the vertical overlapping tape...

We love this idea! With the frame of a drum shade, it is feasible to DIY this one with some linen tape or grosgrain ribbon.

The Moragas Table Lamp is produced by Santa & Cole and is available for $1,850 from Design Within Reach. Now, the DIY option is even more appealing.

Tape? Is it actually sticky?
I give it a month before it is a giant dust bunny.
