Dear AT,
I'm trying to find a 'tripod' style lamp similar to the ones in the attached picture.
Something even with maybe more of a colorful shade.
The bigger the better!
Any idea where I might find this?
My budget isn't enormous, but I can afford up to $300.
Thanks! Catherine

Walmart has one EXACTLY like that for $40. The shade was a piece of crap, but since you're looking for a moer colorful one anyways, it doesn't really matter. At that price you can afford to get a really nice shade.
The lamp is really pretty.

I am such a cheap furniture addict. Meenasyaz is right about WalMart, and Target has great stuff too. Does anyone here shop at TJ Maxx/Home Goods? I'm kind of obsessed.

There are lots of knock off versions of this lamp... Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc...
Just be sure you have lots of room on the floor for the tri-pod legs...

WALMART.COM
It's call TRIO LAMP, comes in floor ($41.96) and table ($20, on clearance), they ran out of stock couple of months ago...and have since restocked...so get them at this price before they're out again. And free shipping to the store (and you can pick it up there)
The white shade is really pretty.
Don't mean to adver. for walmart, but this is a real designer-quality lamp for a few hundred $ less than what you'd expect. Real steal bargain.

Lights Up! has the Weegee table tamp with a lot of really cool shades. I haven't seen the WalMart lamp in person, but what is unclear about it is whether or not the cord runs down inside one of the legs, or is just hanging out the bottom of the light fixture. I considered getting it, but was skeptical of whether or not the cord would be hidden...

CB2 has a fairly nice one for $200. I don't have it, but I have two other CB2 floor lamps and they're really nice quality.

But yeah, other than that, a LOT of stores have this style.

FYI, the CB2 lamp exactly the same as the Weegee floor lamp (both are made by Lights Up). You can find this lamp with lots of shade options at Design Public:

i like this one from Target:http://www.target.com/Tripod-Floor-Lamp-Drum-Shade/dp/B0007RJSUO/qid=1215798064/ref=br_1_16/601-0023082-2815369?ie=UTF8&node=15740821&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=15740821&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=6

Also similar is at BB&B called Tripod Lamp by Fangio Lighting.
At CB2 (Tripod Floor Lamp) $199
At Target (Tripod Floor Lamp with Drum Shade) $159.99
At Lamp Plus (Brushed Nickel Tripod Floor Lamp) $329.91
Also, I made one tripod lamp myself:
purchased the Trio table lamp for Walmart (for its shade & "lamp kit" $20) and found an old wooden camera tripod at flea market ($12)... = amazing looking lamp for $32...looks like the one sold at vintage store ~$400.
I have photos if anyone wants them for INSPIRATION

Check this one out...

I just got the table lamp version for a client and the base finish is so pretty. I know it's different than the one on the photo, but thought I'd share it anyway. Plus...I am sure this is going to last you a whole lot longer than anything you get at Walmart.

West Elm has something very similar too for about $150.

I hate to be a moron but this has been bugging me for ages...
what is CB2?
Crate and Barrel II or some other store?
We obviously don't have one around here... and I haven't seen a catalogue for such a store.
Wondering why Crate and Barrel would need another division. Hmmm.

cb2 is like the younger version of crate and barrel. i prefer it.

CB2 is the younger, hipper, more urban version of Crate. Like others have said, I actually prefer it. I've bought MANY things from them and love all of them. Their quality is on-par or above Crate as well. Whenever I'm in NYC, I try out ALL the furniture in the store just in case I'll want something down the road. :)
I'm still amazed at the number of people on here that shop at Wal-Mart.

Certain elitists love to scoff at Wal-Mart and make them the poster child for all that is wrong in the world, but they aren't still one of the biggest businesses in the Country because people *don't* shop there.

This is similar. I bought an awesome lampshade from this site (the "bitsy" in nicotine with "harmony" pattern in black and gold.) I definitely recommend the site.

This $150 one has much sturdier legs than the others that were posted. http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Tripod_I_Floor_Lamp/00/

I was searching for this exact lamp 3 years ago. I spent months going through every permutation of custom shade and legs I could find in order to avoid paying the exorbitant $700 price tag. After many months of searching, I finally broke down and bought the real thing. Ultimately I am glad I did, as I couldn't justify spending $400 for a half baked version (similar but not exact legs in silver instead of black with a custom made shade) that would be worth just about nothing when it came time to sell it. The price of the G5 Tripode has climbed quickly and steadily in the last 3 years, with the orange shade version crossing the $1100 mark. Factoring in the resale value, the real thing at this point costs me a net of $200. ($700 price I paid minus the resale value (approximately 1/2 of current retail). The custom made fake would have cost me $300 ($400 cost - $100 max I could have gotten for a fake version on craigslist). Classics can often pay for themselves over the life of the piece if they are well cared for.
One thing to keep in mind: due to the insane tax cut and borrow fiscal policies of the current administration, the dollar has nowhere to go but down. That means if you have had your eye on fine imported goods (like a Spanish-made floor lamp) you might want to grab them now if you can - the prices are only going to go up and up over the next few years while we struggle to get our financial house back in order.
