Have you always wanted to display pictures of people effing above your dining room table, but couldn't figure out how to do it artfully? Well, strolling into local Brooklyn shop The Future Perfect recently, we were inspired by the newest expressions of designer Andrea Claire's creativity.
We first noticed Ms. Claire at Brooklyn Designs 2006, when we were wowed by pendant lighting which features shades with photographic interiors shining through their solid exteriors in the most ethereal way.
She's evolved beyond strictly pretty territory here to include images that are challenging, vulgar, or just not normally considered tasteful in decor. These include 70s erotica, airport hallways, and cattle on a dirt road, in addition to two striking nature scenes. Peep Andrea Claire's site for more info.

What's the point in putting NSFW when you have the content right there on the homepage?

Looking into a relatively odd place demands seeing an unexpected thing, don't you think?

I like it.
Not sure about how dinner guests would feel about it though, particularly the in-laws...

What's with the photo's of people engaging in intimate activity. This is weird...are they seriously trying to sell lamp shades. VERY poor taste.

Brilliant, her work is fantastic. I make lamp shades, I must find a way to visit her studio to see the creations up close.
Love her creativity.

Obviously these aren't for everyone... but I like them. I tend to like vintage pinup photos (Betty Page and the like), and I like how the feminist and post-feminist movements are reclaiming those sorts of images. I think this was done in a similar sort of vein--though I admit, I don't know exactly who'd be reclaiming this. I guess it's just sort of amusing--a way to poke fun at more puritanical folks .

I love these. I know alot of people are going to be offended or think they are tacky, but to each his own. I wonder how easy it would be to replicate this look and still keep it classy...?

Who cares about class, if you're going to put pornos on a lampshade you might as well make it nasty. I like a little mischief in my life so I think this is perfect. The dining area is perfect for this lampshade too because you probably only have the light on a few hours of the day, whereas if it was in the living room or bedroom you be looking at those boobies all day long. That would get old.

OMG, LOL...this is great. Why must everything be so serious. I would love to see the reaction on peoples faces.

the u.s. puts out anywhere from 400-750 mainstream & independent feature films annually. in comparison, the u.s. porn industry puts out approximately 11,000 films annually. let's face it, porn is popular culture, not to mention a several billion dollar industry. putting porn on lampshades is in this context not only appropriate but an accurate reflection of our culture.
