Propeller Ceiling Fan by Serien Lighting

9-25-propeller1.jpg

We've always seen ceiling fans as handy tools that ruin all chances for beautiful ceiling lighting in a space. This fan, the Propeller by Serien Lighting, is both - a serene, diffuse lighting source and a highly functional fan.

9-25-propeller2.jpgThe Propeller is a design made of transluscent fabric stretched over a wire frame. The frame's shape appears to be somewhat maleable, creating a soft, glowing form.

This fan really is inspiring in that it challenges traditional notions of what a ceiling fan can be! And what a relief that there are great-looking ceiling fans out there after all, as they're a terrific option for cooling off during these hot summer months.

Available through Fad Lighting. (re-edited from 9.25.2006 original post.)

J'adore! Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for....But the website is in German and does not have a link to the product.....

I also looked at the website (although there is an English option bottom left) and do not see the Propeller....I'm quite interested in this. Any suggestions?

I would love to see a link too! I'm wondering if the fabric is dust resistant. Otherwise the fan might become a dust blower.

Well, I found an E-mail address and sent them a note requesting information. I'll let you all know if I hear anything. Or, if you'd like to contact them their address is serien@serien.com.

I contacted Serien vie E-mail, and they've given me a U.S. contact. As soon as I hear from them I'll post all of their information on this site. I'm guessing if it's this difficult to get a price it must be very expensive. But, hoping....

I did give the company this site address when I referenced it in my inquiry, so they might just post the information on here. In any case, I received an immediate reply from Serien, so hopefully I'll know more today or tomorrow.

Oh, and Elizabeth posted that she wondered if the fan would become a "dust blower." I've never used one, but I think you can spray your sofa to help prevent stains. Surely that would keep the dust off?

This is fantastic! (Pun intended.) I wait in suspense for the further info you're getting. Let's hope it's not too expensive in US $$.

Below is the reply I received from Serien. I did contact FAD-Lighting, but haven't heard anything. I also looked at their web site and could not find the product. However, their catalogue is HIGE, so it wasn't an extensive search. If anyone else has time to look please do so. Aldo, I've done several versions of Google searches and came up with nothing on the product and FAD-Lighting, so.... Who knows? I'll still post a reply if I receive one, but if anyone else wants to try to scout it out, please do so.

From Serien:

Thank you very much for your interest in our lighting collection.

Wow, I was hoping for something in the -$600 range. $1500 is a lot of money...sigh.

US$1500 is a bit steep considering retail price of this in europe is 657 euros. Btw, it comes with a remote to control the fan. The rotation can also be manually changed to summer or winter mode.

What about grime build up on the fan/fixture itself, since it is fabric? I have a 52" ceiling fan and need to clean the top side of it periodically.

Also, given its size, I wonder how effective it is at moving air - does it work like a Vornado fan - or??

I like the fans at www.modernfan.com . They are available at the largest on-line stores. Also check out the link: Casa Di Luce for very interesting suggestions of modern lighting.
