Squid Wallsconces

Fishy. Micheal Ruh lives in England but his Squid Lighting has an almost tropical feel to it. Made with handblown glass, Ruh "creates pieces of the utmost of aesthetic complexity" using "the simplest means I can think of." The Squids are mounted and hung in front of a flourescent bulb ($1350) and are made to order directly from him.

This is not all. Ruh has a line of vessels and tableware as well. Contact: www.michealruh.com. (Spotted in ID Mag) MGR

Hmmm, like a streamlined Dale Chihuly sculture.

That's what I thought... I'm sure Mr. Chihuly or Mr. Ruh might have something to say about that... but this is beautiful.

Banana yellow would be a bad choice of glass color.

The brown and green are a little too beer-bottle-y.
Not that I have ANYTHING against beer bottles.

squids...or condoms?

It doesn't matter which color scheme you use, really. Flourescent light is kind of unattractive. (I know from experience). Now something that uses one of those full spectrum bulbs...

I, too, am NO fan of the flourescent, but I see these pieces being more publicly/corporately displayed, in larger spaces with other lightsources. For some reason, the color of flourescent light (here) works for me. But I'll deny it in a court of law! ;)

Yikes, sorry I keep misspelling "fluorescent".

I went to the MoMA recently and saw their Dan Flavin sculptures. I like some of his work [the installations at the Dia Center were always kinda cool to me] but in an already-bright gallery it hurt just to look at them. I imagine this scuplture/light might have the same problem.
