Vintage Jewelry Chandelier by Floto+Warner

floto-warner-necklace-light-2.jpg

Second-hand costume jewelry was not just the inspiration for this chandelier; it's actually made almost entirely of old jewels. Using cast-off necklaces, bracelets and brooches, "Pendant Light" (get it?) by Floto + Warner have created a gorgeous piece using almost zero waste, sourced entirely from the Goodwill and Salvation Army...

The finished versions range in size, as every one is clearly unique and made by hand, but we hear there are small versions available. How beautiful would three or four of these be running the length of a hallway? Floto + Warner are contactable here.

*phew* Yesterday I was worried that we might go through a week without someone throwing trash on a lightbulb and calling it a chandelier. I was apparently wrong.

Love it. I expect big things from this duo -- their photographic work is exceptional. Also check out the Inflatable series in the Worlds Away exhibit or on their website.

Sorry, but anything that a homeless person can DIY is never a good thing.

I love it, and how fun for someone on a small budget looking for unique fixture. I'm curous though about the form underneath that allows it to take such a great shape.

kimg924, i love it too!

if you look closely, it seems like it could be done with an extremely basic ikea pendant light. the top of the shape is made by pinning or otherwise attaching some strands and letting them drape down (so the top of the lamp inside must be narrow enough to allow that to happen), and then the rim of the light is what causes the piece to flare out.

looking at some examples on their website when the light is off, i'm 98% sure it's a variation on one of these:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20038219

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90128179

but i think it might look nice, and certainly more organic and full as it comes off the light, with this one:

(can you tell i'm already planning a trip to goodwill to get started?)
