Lightened Up. When we last looked at new furniture start-up Brocade Home (from the Restoration Hardware folks), everything was dominated by dark colors and darker wood and finishes. Now for spring, they've kept their baroque shapes and lightened up. Lots of white and pale colors...

What is the quality like?? If any one knows I am dying to know. I really struggle with ordering furniture with out a sense of the level of quality.
same here, i can imagine those nice wood chairs weighing 10 pounds and breaking after a real person sits in it.
or maybe not
Love their stuff and thinking of trying the curtains.
Too bad they didn't lighten up their prices...
Yeesh. That top photo of the white room with the pastel award ribbons gives me the heebie-jeebies. It's like a little girl's bedroom. Not sexy. Very creepy.
Overall, I like the white. But I'm curious how people who have invested in Brocade's first season of furniture will feel about the sudden shift in colors. From a marketing standpoint, I think Brocade made a mistake by giving the illusion that the past season's darker colors are "out" now. They risk alienating the people who purchased already.
What--are you supposed to scrap all your darks and go totally white? That seems to be the implication. Dumb move brocade.
I've tried to spread the word. My Hand Carved Bed Frame is holding up fine. Put it together right after Christmas. Super fast service, even with a glitch. The bed is much prettier in person. You can see the wood grain really well and the hand-staining just seems to emphasize it. So easy to assemble a monkey could do it.
Photolink in my name. It's the photos with the hot pink/orange sari quilt.
New line has some tempting pieces. That white headboard as well as the trellis headboard/daybed. Some of the rugs (so $$$)! And those lace cut storage pieces?! If the media one were cheaper, I'd be all over it.
Jaya, seriously, why would anyone invest that kind of money and then turn around and buy all new? I think BH would expect repeat buyers to go for accent pieces to update their look. I can't think of any good reason to own a white bed, pretty as these are. But there are accent tables, curtains, shelves, lamps, rugs, etc.
I don't feel alienated or gypped at all.
Funny how people's taste differs... I absolutely love the award ribbons against the stark white, also love the huge installation of Sarah Chiat's plates. Wish I could afford that many!!!
Bought a chandelier from them a couple months ago. Delivery was within a week. Had a professional take care of the installation, hardwired, and set a dimmer. Made in China, all glass, decent/quality construction... but I have no strong reference point since this is my first chandelier purchase. I did look for awhile before purchasing and the brocade one is ideal since it's classic design, with some modern twists.
Jaya—While the new catalog features a lot of white/lightness, it's important to note that most of the dark wood is still available. Brocade Home didn't abandon it, they just refocused for spring. I don't think they will isolate former customers—they're just expanding their offerings.
There's plenty of dark stuff in the catalogue - and plenty of pattern too.
I'm clearly in the minority here; I paged through it completely engrossed, as if I were looking at a scrapbook of World's Greatest Car Accidents. I kept waiting for something I could tolerate, something that wasn't tufted, or flocked, or paisleyed, something clean and authentic, and it never happened. It had the tonal feeling of a British porno film from 1970, all decadent style without any real pleasure.
jonathan, i'm with you on this. i just feel disappointed- as a concept, could have been lots of fun (the way anthropologie is), and really doesn't hit the mark (for me)-- really more from a standpoint of styling and as a 'look', than the products per se. i think they could have styled the same products differently and have given much a stronger impression. - p
