Inside the Marimekko Factory!
Helsinki, Finland

On my trip to Helsinki Design Week, I got to take a quick walk through Marimekko headquarters. The inside was home to design offices, showrooms and the large factory where their textiles are printed!

 
 

Although the majority of Marimekko textiles are flat printed, on the day I was visiting they were using the rotary press to reproduce Sanna Annukka's Kanteleen kutsu pattern in reds for the Marimekko Holiday collection.

I really never thought about it but the profits on these fabrics must be tremendous. Everything is printed on canvas and they charge the prices of real textiles.
