Look! A Victorian Home Grows in Brooklyn

For a while now the trend in Brooklyn is to level an existing lot and erect a cold, glass tower. So we have to give kudos when someone goes against the grain and restores an existing building with heart.

This labor of love is located on North 10th Street in Williamsburg. The Victorian style brownstone has been under renovation for a little over a year and I'm continually amazed at the attention to detail.

Bold colors pop among stucco surroundings. Windows feature real copper coverings. A decorative glass awning spans the width of the sidewalk — there’s even a weathervane to stand watch over the building.

Love it or hate it, this homeowner is definitely making a statement among the new generation of buildings.

I love all the copper and ornate detailing. The only people who could hate this is are the ones living in the building next door--it looks so dowdy in comparison now.

How cool - I love the unique entrance canopy!

I wonder if they need a built-in sideboard?

It's beautiful. I hope the copper stays where it is, too. It's such a beautiful thing, copper.
