This is a hot tip from Monk Belle. Check out the aerial view of Reykjavik, Iceland with its amazingly colorful roofs. Found in a recent NYTimes article by Mark Sundeen, Iceland's Ring Road: The Ultimate Road Trip, this pic is from the slideshow. Imagine if we treated roof purchasing like the Icelandics? It must be an arctic thing. A doctor friend was sent north of 60 to work in an Inuit community for a few weeks and he brought back photos of the brightly-coloured corrugated-steel houses (probably prefab) up there. The bright reds, oranges and turquoises just popped against the whiteness of the snow.
A nice way to add color to those long, grey winters...
I want to put a bright roof on my bungalow, darnit. I wonder what the neighbors will think...
Those roofs look very nice. We tend to ignore our roofs. We extend the exterior walls above our flat boring roofs to hide them from view.
It looks a little like a Lego town. It is a toss up because the splashes of color defintely brings a smile to your face. I just worry it becomes laughter.
Oh yeah, Michelle, definitely! Throughout Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and maybe parts of Finland, colorful roofs and bright colored homes are a signature thing in Scandinavia.
Ok, I just noticed this is an old post I am responding to. ;)
