Hip Hamper.
We're huge fans of Kartell's Componibili storage units. They're attractive, affordable, modular and a design classic. We own a round unit, and were aware of the square units but somehow we missed the hamper! While browsing at the Conran Shop, we found it in the bathroom area. The dumptruck-style door allows for easy dirty-clothes storage. This would also work extremely well for clean towels...
We would have taken more pictures if we'd known that it was so difficult to find online! The shape is a rounded square, similar to the square Componibili Storage Units. We believe that multiple hamper units could be stacked (by removing the tray at the top), but we are unsure as there is very little information on the hamper floating around the web. We like the idea of a slim tower of towels or an easy way to sort laundry, vertically. Does anyone have experience with the Componibili hamper?
Available from Unicahome and Highbrow Furniture for $187.

Hmm....I would love the ease of just chucking my dirty laundry into that opening on the side (seriously, I love that), but I'm afraid (certain, actually) that the fact that I wouldn't have to lift the lid to put laundry in it means that I would be tempted to pile stuff on top of it. *sigh* Someday I'll learn some self control and be able to have something like this :)

I like the design, but I wish it was in some nice zebrawood plywood bent material. Imagine how posh it would be. And expensive - I am sure.

....the shopaholic in me will get this. my reasoning is it will motivate me more to do laundry...yup thats my excuse. and im sticking to it.

No experience with them, but I've been trying to decide what I think would be the perferct Componibili bedside table for a while now, and it frequently involves the hamper on the bottom. Problem is, I've had a hamper most of my adult life and rarely have dirty clothes made their way into it, so it seems a bit spendy for something that I'm sure I wouldn't use.

LOL - Bellaknollie - very funny. I like the inner dialogue and your capability of convincing the designer brain to get it. Go for it.

bluestar - in addition to the dumptruck-like side opening, the top tray easily comes off to more-easily empty/access the contents. fyi.

$187 for a plastic hamper is "affordable"?

Aaron, the top tray wouldn't come off so easily if it was piled miles high with unfolded laundry, my purse, whatever book I'm reading, etc :)
I kid. A little bit. I'm trying really hard to declutter and be good about putting my things back where they belong. I've been extremely good at the decluttering part and extremely bad at putting the things I use every day back where they belong (even if where they belong is easily reached, clear of obstruction, clearly labeled, etc). It's just breaking myself of old habits, I know, but my current (ugly) wicker hamper can't get (much) stuff piled on it because the *only* way in and out is through the lid on top!

i rather have a 187 VISUALLY appealing piece of plastic that will hold my dirty clothes than a 5.99 walmart fiasco that will make me cringe when i go in the bathroom. i know, i know...i have issues but its not my fault. this time i blame...hmm...ahh yes...this site. yup ha ha!

Do not buy this! I got one and it was cheaply made. Looks fantastic but is not functional at all.

Pls elaborate - not functional? The door opens and clothes go in, how doesn't it work? I'm planning on getting one soon, so any information appreciated.
