At a small shop on Thompson Street over the weekend, Dosa, we snapped a few pics of two really cool things that they've done there. One we'd snapped before, and that was their full wall of silk squares. The other is their surprising use of concrete blocks for their flooring....
Silk squares of this size are easy to purchase and not expensive, as they often come from cuttings and leftovers from kimonos or other garments. At Dosa they've lightly hung them from lines that cover the entire side of the shop. The colorful effect and lightness is huge.
The floor is the opposite. Made of cheap cinder blocks, it strikes a minimalist, raw feeling within the shop and reminds us a little bit of the Japanese design of MUJI or Tadao Ando. This is a great idea if you want an extremely durable, affordable and unique flooring solution.
