Damn!
Just two weeks ago I had the same problem moving my wide leather couch into a townhouse in Brooklyn.

I read the old post here, called ABC Home, and was recommended either MJS or Sal the New York Couch Doctor (not the same as Dr. Sofa).

I went with Couch Doctor, was EXTREMELY disappointed with the results, and wish I had gone with MJS. In fact, I probably will when it's time to move out again.

Sal took it upon himself to cut a piece of my leather couch off because he had forgotten to tuck it under another piece while reupholstering the back of my couch, and was too lazy to take it apart and do it correctly.

The couch is not ruined, but this was done right in front of my face without even notifying me. Out came the cutters and before I realized what he was doing, he had cut that leather piece right off. It still makes me furious.

I do NOT recommend New York Couch Doctor.

Would it have been TOO much trouble for Elyzabeth to rotate the mis-oriented among those many many MANY pictures before she uploaded them? Hmph.

WIEDER is a surprise - in spite of its minimalist looks it offers excellent comfort, thanks to high quality filling and wooden slats in the seat. Roomy and comfortable while not taking up too much space. Even more surprising is the ease with which the sofa converts into a double bed.

I thought I'd posted a follow-up, but it seems not.

I'm exceptionally pleased with MJS's service. I live on a 5th floor walkup and they were in and out in under an hour. It's a pretty scary process to watch, but they did a wonderful job.

The guys who did the work were professional and extremely informative when I started bugging them about details. They clearly know a lot about their work and were particularly familiar with Crate & Barrel's furniture.

I won't hesitate to use them in the future and can recommend them wholeheartedly.

We ran into a similar problem when trying to move into our apartment last week. When we got to our new building with our movers we found that our couch would not fit into the elevator. I called MJS but never received a call back. I called Bloomingdales to get a recommendation and they referred me to Unique Furniture Services. They came to our apartment the same day and did a GREAT job. The two men who came over were excellent and quick. They were extremely nice and professional as well. MJS has still not called me, I have to say I am quite disappointed considering how professional everyone says they are. If you find yourself in a similar bind try Unique, the number is 718-353-4183.

WARNING!
I used All Furniture Services because of all of the emails above, and trust me, those emails were definitely ALL submitted by the owner! THis was a ridiculously unprofessional and incompetent service, do NOT use them. They were supposed to come between 12-4, and the guy didn't show until 8pm. Then he refused to do more than take off one arm, even though I pointed out that it was obvious that the stairs were too narrow. When we couldn't get it up the stairs, he then told me, with the sofa stuck in the stairs, that they charge more to take the sofa apart further, and that my estimate would no longer hold!!! THis is pure extortion, I obviously had no choice with the sofa already apart and halfway up the stairs! THen, when we got it upstairs, he did such a bad job of putting it back together that we paid him to LEAVE and had to undo everything that he did and do it ourselves, lucky we had our own drill. It's easy to take a sofa apart, the hard part is putting it back together, this is what you are paying for. This guy was literally drilling wood into stuffing and drilling directly onto the crack in the wood (the result of his first attempt to squeeze it through the stairs with only one arm off). DO NOT use this service, it is incompetent, unprofessional and frankly fraudulent. WHen the guy on the phone gave me the estimate, he certainly never told me that the price was subject to change if they had to take off more than one arm. I am still furious!

I heard the same horror story from one of my friends. I don't doubt that All Furniture is a professional company, but they certainly don't act like it. When I searched on line, I found Dr. Sofa (NOT the couch doctor). They came on time, called ahead to confirm, and gave me a guaranteed price. I can't ask for more. I spoke with Max and Kathy and they made sure I was taken care of. When I move again and any of my friends move, I always reccommend Dr. Sofa.
