Look! Giant Flip-Up Windows

We spent a long weekend in Portland, Oregon and spied these giant flip-up windows at a restaurant in the Pearl District...

The weather over the weekend was crazy-hot for Portland. Opened up to the street, these windows transformed an indoor space into an outdoor space. Wouldn't this be a great way to extend your living space into a back garden or yard?

So many places here in Portland have roll-up garage-style doors, but those are especially nifty! (We don't get many nice days, but we definitely maximize the ones we get.)

I love the look of these, but they seem like they would cause you to lose a lot of space inside, unlike a roll-up garage-style door. However if there is a way to secure these, the windows could also serve as an awning for outside dining/entertaining.

wow - smart thinking Greige!

i love both ideas - the more open to the outside - all the better.

These look like an accident waiting to happen - either to someone stood outside when you open them or someone underneath when you close them - ouch!

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous! These windows make me want to just sit there and look out. I live with floor to ceiling windows which makes me feel like I'm part of the outdoors. I love them. I want to take them home, and old house and renovate around them.
