At a friend's over the weekend, we had to stop and admire their new dining room, which was such a great hi-lo mix. The table is the School Table from BDDW, a high ticket item, the chairs are the Minimal Side Chair from De La Espada, a bit lower on the ticket totem pole, and the rug and all the napkins and place mats are from West Elm and Crate & Barrel. The whole house is like this with a few pieces of really top notch quality, while all the rest was ordered online from big box stores.

That table is gorgeous. BDDW has such beautiful pieces - their Lake Credenza is on my dream wish list.
This is my favorite kind of decorating as I don't believe that everything has to be expensive to look great. Splurge on a few key pieces and fill in with great-looking but more affordable items.
I would love to see a house tour here!
you refer to the chairs as "a bit lower on the ticket totem pole" but on the De La Espada site they start at $675/piece. so we're looking at at least $5400 worth of dining chairs?? holy crap
love that bddw! of course this combination makes sense, the rugs and napkins get the most wear and tear. the table and chairs are forever.
I lust after BDDW -- their dining tables, mirrors and the Harall rug...
I don't quite care for the look, it seems odd that you make that large of an investment in furniture and accesorize with materials that look shaky in quality and style. It seems like two styles (and budgets) were thrown together here.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH DE LA ESPADA.
FURNITURE IS LOVELY, I THINK. PRICES ARE WHAT THEY ARE (VERY HIGH, BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS).
BIGGEST ISSUE IS A REALLY BAD CORPORATE CULTURE:
OUR TABLE CRACKED, AND THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. THEY TOLD US SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS - FOR $5,000, ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME TO GET A HUMIDIFIER. AND THEY OFFERED TO FILL THE CRACK WITH WAX. THAT WAS IT.
THEN OUR SIDEBOARD WAS 6 WEEKS LATE, WHEN WE ASKED TO SPEAK THE MANAGER, THEY TOLD US THERE IS NONE. WE ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER, THEY TOLD US TO GET THE NAME OFF THE WEBSITE. THIS IS ONE GIANT EFFORT TO PASS THE BUCK. NO ONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING, SO THEY JUST KEEP SAYING THEY DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL BEFORER GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY. THIS IS NOT A TRUSTED OUTFIT.
YOU'LL HAVE TO SUE THEM IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.
