apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look! Post-It Decor at Bri & Chad's

5-2-bri.jpg

Bri & Chad stuck in our minds for many reasons, but they primarily stuck there because we did a double take when we saw this part of their apartment. Instead of doing what any nice person would do - ie. paint the wall a nice yellow or if they weren't allowed to paint, simply refraining all together - they got creative.

Now they have a yellow wall of Post-It's for only the price of a few dozen packs AND it will all come down easily when they move. Oh, and they say they don't ever fall.

They say: And yes. Those are post-it notes. We wanted to do something fun and textural (not to mention cost effective) on the wall with the computer workstation. Who says renters can't paper the walls? They've been up since January and have yet to fall down.

that post-it mosaic is pretty darn cool.

darlyn: we didn't use any extra adhesive, though it wouldn't be a bad idea. i ran into the wall while trying to put a shelving unit in the closet the other day and i did knock some down. post-it also makes notes with "heavy duty" adhesive. we just used regular, but those would probably be even better.

bc: the desk is from the crate & barrel outlet. i bought it last summer for only $30. both cb2 and c&b often have good deals in the "outlet" sections of their websites. might be worth a look.

wende: pantone post-its? i think i would die from sheer happiness. although my boss would probably make me cover every surface in her studio with 240 U.

The new mosaic. Like to see what they can do with a multi-color collection.

I actually love this idea - it is a little wacky, but I'm sure that everyone who walks into that apartment does a double take because of its cool factor. I'm only wondering if they used any extra adhesive to keep the post-its up, since I'm not sure they would stay on by themselves for very long.. or do they??

Before I read the headline, it just looked like a brick wall that you'd painted a soft yellow...

wow Grizzo, that post-it mosaic link is amazing...

Every time I see the photo, I'm sure it's yellow-painted brick, even though I *know* it's not...

If we can get Post-Its and Pantone together, we'd have something.

Wende,
I'm drooling at the thought of Pantone Post-Its.

Can someone tell me where that desk is from? I covet it...LOL The Post-It mosaic is a thing of genius - we used it frequently in college but with MUCH less stunning results. :-)

well, if you took paint chips (the little card stock ones from the hardware store) you could do the same thing with more colors. you'd just need a bit of glue-stick or some two-sided tape.

i appropriated hundreds of these for a different project - i used them to make gift tags for xmas presents. and then there is nara wallets... (click my name)

here's my post-it creation: http://www.flickr.com/photos/neonarcade/sets/586491/

adds quite a nice ambience to the room.

Of course, if you consider a single gale of wind blowing in there (e.g. from opening a window), it might be gone before you take the next set of pictures. :)

If I am correct, I think that this room was shown on HGTV's "Small Space Big Style" --great idea!

Back in The Day when Budget Living was (1) still being published and (2) cool, they had this idea on their cover. I wish I could remember which issue it was, but I bet it was from 2004 or so.

I guess I've read too many NFPA magazines, but all I see is a fire hazard. That would light up in a wall of fire if a flame hit it. Hopefully it isn't along an egress path.
I think the same thing when I see sheets and other fabrics draped across a wall or ceiling.

Otherwise it looks pretty cool.
