Look! Stripped Pool Table at Rogan

1-25-rogan.jpg

The fashion house Rogan is downstairs, and as we were passing by their door was open...and...they have the coolest pool table inside. Surfaced with black felt and totally stripped down to the bare wood, it looks like it's from some ancient manor. We're never seen anything like it. Pool tables are soooooo tacky, this has rekindled our hopes.

Actually, Adler pool tables makes some very nice modern-style tables. Check out the "Metropolitan" in particular.

The "Oracle" is a little too metal for my tastes, but it's also pretty:

All of their collections are here:

More on this: at one point I was going to have Adler create a version of the metropolitan that had a fitted dining top so that the pool table could be used as a dinner table.

The metropolitan with tapered leg would look great with a white corian top, for instance:

Why are pool tables tacky?

other than my neighborhood's bachelors who have a pool table instead of a dining table, i see no reason to call pool tables tacky. the faux tiffany lights that tend to congregate overhead, however....

I don't understand the comment that pool tables are "tacky". I've seen some that are very, very nice. I can only imagine that you are talking about the cheap, cheesy kind that are sometimes sold in discount stores during the holidays.....

I just looked at some of the Adler tables in the link, and was impressed! I especially liked the "Diamond" model. Kind of Egyptian/Art Deco looking!

You can't just banish pool tables forever by branding them tacky! David has it right it's the rest of the room that you might be thinking of. And, yes, Daphne, Rogan does make everything look cool.

Tacky? And the one in the picture isn't? Did you not notice the "griffin" feet?

The pool tables by o8o Studios are pretty sleek. Click on my name for the link.

Actually, the tackiness of pool tables is part of their charm. I live between a pool hall and Blatt, and I must say both add a cheery note to the neighborhood, Tiffany lamps, dubious accessories, and all.

Yeah!

How can you call this tacky?

That last adler one looks like an air-hockey table to me.

Maybe my soul lacks poetry.

That last adler one I actually like a lot less than some of the more classic-looking pool tables. I think the pool tables are cool and there's no need to mess with the design - sort of like you wouldn't want to "update" the classic grand piano design.

I'm sorry, but those Adler tables are HIDEOUS!

You seem to have caused a bit of a stir here. Which only goes to prove that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My eyes see beauty in it the same way yours do.
