Look! Turtle Lighting in Costa Rica

11-27-costa-light1.jpg

This past week we had the tremendous pleasure of taking a surf vacation near Tamarindo, Costa Rica with the whole family and a bunch of friends. While the local home decor that we saw was not particularly notable, they did have fascinating lighting which has been developed so that the huge leatherback turtles are not disturbed by the light at night when they land to lay their eggs.

All of the outdoor and visible indoor lighting is shaded so as not to be seen from the beach. The shades are also mainly made of wood or grass so as to survive better in the equatorial climates. These lovely homegrown designs remind us of clean, mid-century designs and are not so complicated that you couldn't make them yourself.

Is this Maxwell posting? Because if it is, you need to be careful. Fantastic renovation, cute baby, and now vacation in Costa Rica. I think I may need to hate you pretty soon.

Ahhh, tamarindo...I learned to surf there last year at Witches Rock surf school. Good times. Did you eat at Pedro's by any chance. Fantastic MahiMahi for like 6 bucks

Did you really take your newborn to Costa Rica? We passed up on our yearly trip to Phoenix for Thanksgiving because of my baby who was born a week before yours. I didn't want to travel with him before he got his 8 wk. shots, and because of the sheer stress of holiday airport chaos.
