Look! West Elm's "Silver"

10-11-silver-parsons-desk.jpg

Seasonal Shine. We just breezed through the Chelsea West Elm on our lunchbreak and even though it was a little odd to see some holiday decor ready for purchase, we love the new "silver" seasonal color. Surprised it was named "silver", it's more of a pale, grainy gold that was stunning on the Parsons Desk...

One of our favorite pieces available in the color the Circle Cutout Chairs doesn't have an online image. Don't be fooled by the online swatch color as the color is much warmer and "goldish" in person.

I am a HUGE West Elm fan, but it really irks me that they have fired the starting pistol on Christmas decor this freakin' early.

And I think they run the risk of shooting themselves in the foot on the subject.

Great. I couldn't make up my mind between the white one and the red one and now there's a silver one!?!?!

There was an article in the NYT the other day about "stealth" Christmas that a lot of stores seem to be engaging in: http://tinyurl.com/22kp6q

Hey Snot - the Parsons Desk is far from cheap and clunky. It's well made, sturdy and available for a fair price! I am more than pleased with mine!

Snot thinks something is cheap and ugly?? Such a surprise! :P

Interesting article Pixie, thanks.

I think West Elm would have been better served by introducing their glitzy (but non holiday) stuff now, and holding off a beat on the holiday items specifically designed to coordinate with their more major home trends, like these items in silver and gold finishes.

Didn't Crate and Barrell just introduce a silver line, with dressers that were featured on this site a couple of days ago?

Umm, all the Christmas stuff is already on-shelf at most major retailers...sad but true.

Drool. I seriously want that silver ottoman, but too pricey for me.

Gold is the new Silver. If you don't see it yet, just wait a year.

I couldn't believe how much I wanted to buy in that new West Elm catalog! I love this new silver color!

And actually, as annoying as early Christmas stuff is, I'm kinda happy knowing I can get a few of those pillows (the linen 'xmas tree') and get a jump on creating a festive atmosphere in my apt for the holidays.

The desk finish is eh, but the silver ottoman is gorgeous.

Oh, wait, I went to the catalogue--is that the silver leather ottoman they have there? Eh. It looks so satiny white in this picture...

Well it seems to me there's a strong Hollywood Regency trend in home decor happing right now anyways... which uses many mixed metals, including silver. Could this perhaps be just a coincidence that it's at it's style peak right around the holidays?

Bryan--
West Elm has it's fair share of gold for the season, too.

Hey, does anyone know whether IKEA or similar (CB2?) has something similar to the Parsons Storage Coffee Table?

I'm digging it, but those colors won't work in my room (love the silver though).

Has anyone seen the 'mushroom' color in person? I'm far from an actual store, so it's hard to tell online how dark it is. Can anyone reference a pantone # that might be close??

don't everyone rush out and buy my desk! *flips hair* it's really fab in person and the color is a pearly opal.

You're right Patrick...I got my catalog and nearly barfed. If they had just introduced the silver that would have been fine--but when they introduce it as a "holiday" thing, well, I think you're telling people that "silver is for holidays" which is not a great selling point. They could have just glammed it up a bit and got their customers excited about that.
