Paris Design Notes: Bonpoint

The shop is in an old mansion. This room was our favorite: deep blue trim, with white walls and a sanded, raw waxed grey floor.

Trekking over to Bonpoint, a remarkable shop by the Luxembourg Gardens, we discovered that this flagship store had recently opened with amazing interiors. The clothing is all for babies and children, but the style is beautifully adult and so much more sophisticated than Barney.

They were a little uneasy with us taking pictures, and consented probably because we bought $250 worth of teeny, tiny shirts and pants (not hard to do). Take a look.

All the rooms had beautiful kilims coloring the floors and some had painted kilims on the floors as well. A great idea if you are on a budget.

This crazy thing is a caravan for a Vespa scooter...in pink. It's the tiniest camper we've ever seen. Available from PodCaravans.com

Love that blue trim.

Of course, we have Bonpoint here too. Trust me, I wish we didn't. It's up on Madison. You don't have to go all Barney just bcs your baby is a New Yorkah.

the kilm designs painted on the floor look very similar to the designs from the eastern part of india.

WOW!
These pictures have so many great ideas when you look closely at the details!

In photo #21, the long view of the store, how is the ceiling lighting done? Is it bounce lighting from the skinny bars above the windows?

Photo #13, looking from inside the store past the the "pod caravan", shows an interesting placement of the top of the arched window. It's AT the ceiling! Completely opens the feeling of that space.

Phote #19, looking at shelving and floor, skinny shelving highlighted by a step-up transition on the floor. It's a small detail but it makes that shelving look integrated and finished.

There's lots more....

Wow, you guys certainly packed ALOT of visits and activities into one tiny cool weekend.

I like how the store mixed real kilims with ones painted on the floor.

Anyone have good tips on how best to paint color and patterns directly on hardwood floors the way the store did? It looks so flawless.

How about an Apartment Therapy Paris design tour?

A group of us AT'ers get together and PAY for Maxwell's trip with us to Paris.

OY! Such shameless tax-deductible self promotion!
BUT BRAVO! I've been wanting to rent for a month a litte place there for some time. Now I will. Spending a month there would be truly challenging, With my Regents Francais.
Your pictures were geat.

Really enjoyed the wonderful slide show of the very stylish store and it'll probably be as close I'll ever get to Paris, so, thanks!

Seriously, does anyone think design tours would be a viable business? I proposed this to a friend, who scoffed at me.

Does anything like this exist now?

I would totally go on a design tour. In say, Stolkholm/ Copenhagen. That'd be perfect. I'm going to Paris myself this spring and I'd love to hit up some goon design spots there, too.

Your friend the scoff-er is a fool. FOOL.

Omigosh, I love that little trailer. want. it. now. I've seen those before. Theyre called teardrop trailers, and there are people who build them as a hobby. But that's the cutest one I've ever seen. It looks like a 1950's toaster. That + a scooter would be an awesome way to travel: stylish, cheap, AND ecological!
