The material is made from approximately 5-year-old bamboo that has been cut into rectangular slats. Sells in batches of 25 slats for $100. Starting at 50 slats you get free shipping.
A friend of mine has a townhouse from the 70s that has a wall done in this. It look incredibly tacky, and if you have cats, forget it.

Clarification: My friend thinks it's tacky, too - I'm not trying to rip on them!

I think I could imagine it not looking tacky.

I think they could be nice -- a good way to add texture to a space. Not sure about a ceiling though, unless it was a really high ceiling.

Yeah, definitely not feeling this. However, I think the 1/4" bamboo plywood or veneer sold by this company has some potential for paneling.

It doesn't look tacky with the right decor. Anything will look tacky if it's overdone, but a well placed accent wall with these bamboo slats can definitely work. I can see a lot of possibilities myself. :)

i love it! i've seen some designs overseas using bamboo in some many styles and settings.

bluenude, maybe they looked good because they were overseas?
It's like the whole joke about bamboo being more sustainable than wood despite the fact that it has to be shipped half way around the world.

This picture looks awful. I think they probably are awful.

I see a DIY tiki-bar theme party in someone's future. I just hope it isn't mine.

I think as indoor decor it might make your place look like a tiki theme restaurant. However, if I had a backyard I wouldn't mind making a up a deck with that. If you go on the website the bamboo rugs are kinda cool.

I'm thinking porch ceiling. Doesn't work with my decor, but it could with someone's. And if it's on the ceiling, the cats wouldn't be able to get to it. Or at least they'd have to try harder.

I really like the bamboo feel, especially for my backyard. I've purchased a lot of products from http://www.bambooandtikis.com/ if anyone is looking for a place to buy bamboo products.
