If you are looking for hardware for your kitchen or bathroom, Smolka is where contractors go for good prices and service.
Smolka sells every major brand of bathroom tap, sink, faucet, shower door, toilet bowl, medicine cabinet, kitchen faucet, sink, garbage disposal, insinkerator.... on and on.
How do they do it? Smolka told us that they "wake up every morning and sharpen their special pencils, which make the prices go down." They also said that if they like someone, the prices also go down. They're funny too. (Thanks, Anthony!)
I don't find Smolka to be cheaper than online sources like www.homecenter.com or www.homeclick.com. Also the staff is rather surly and never call back.
Cheap, they aren't, but they have a great selection and can help you get done a lot of custom work. I priced out a frameless shower from 3 different places (including the group that does all this kind of stuff for Home Depo Expo) and the price that Smolka gave me was the best. Also, I ended up buying a sink and custom vanity straight off their showroom floor and they gave me an incredible price . Unlike the last reviewer, they have always been friendly and courteous.
am currently close to the end of my complete bathroom renovation for which I used Anthony Riccio and his team and I can say that it has been a wonderful experience; the bathroom was a gut renovation of my prewar West Village bathroom and I now have fantastic fixtures, as suggested by Anthony. There were some plumbing issues related to the age of the building but Anthony and his crew handled it all beautifully and got raves from the building's crew and manager. Anthony put me in touch with Melissa at Smolka plumbing supply. Melissa helped me with the fixture selection, got me a really good price on everything and it was all ordered and ready to go when she promised it would be. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!
