2005_1_31_fabric.jpgHigh End. We are adding B & J Fabrics to our Stores Guide because of their remarkable selection of fabrics. B & J has no website and no reviews anywhere else that we could find. What is this good for?? Curtains, tablecloths, upholstering, you name it... Don't just rely on Pottery Barn. (Thanks, Laurie!) MGR

Laurie says: Beautiful selection, excellent prices, in a perfectly lit showroom - with VERY HELPFUL staff. It's a totally diferent vibe. Last time I was there Serena Willams was searching for the perfect fabric.

BellyDanceNY says: Unbelievably beautiful things including iridescent chiffons and paisleyand jewel-tone velvets and reembroidered beaded fabrics and "ethnic" imports. Costs a sultana's ransom.

love B&J. the last time i went i was browsing through and saw a striped fabric that absolutely made me giddy. not sure if it'd match something i have at home, i asked for a swatch. not only did the charming salesman give me a swatch but he gave me a HUGE swatch since it made me feel so happy.

i came back and bought 3 yards. love that place.

Love love love B&J. I have a collection of swatches at home from when I was thinking about making my own duvet cover. It's so inspirational to be in there.

So I was reading about B&J Fabrics, when I was a student at Parsons around the corner
We used to buy all of our fabrics here for school projects. I once saw Michael Koors there buying fabric for his then young company. They usually let you take swatches, a very important detail for the starving fashion designer. I remember Isaac Mizrahi and Narciso Rodriguez shopping for swatches to then sketch from for school projects.

A little history from the archives of B& J fabrics….
Cheers

The staff knows their inventory & details about the fabrics. I consistently come away with a bag of great fashion and quality. B&J is an artist date with myself.

B&J is great for apparel fabrics, but they have very little upholstery fabric. For that, Joe's Fabric Warehouse on the Lower East Side is a good (and cheap) resource.

If you're seriously into sewing, it's the place to shop, wonderful and knowledable staff and an amazing selection. It is one of those family owned buisnesses where the family works along side the staff and everybody is treated like family.

I was in the same class with Isaac and Narcisso - we always went to B&J - it was the best. Their selection of vintage fabrics - at that time upstairs - was unrivaled. I'm so happy they only moved - and didn't close. Will be going there this week to buy for Christmas gift crafting!

I discovered B & J in the 1980's when I was a design student at F.I.T. I remember walking in and thinking, "OH, MY!" I knew I had found the ultimate fabric motherlode- their inventory will make you swoon! They have a knowledgable and friendly staff that really can't do enough for you. They've even handled my "fabric emergencies" by phone. I can always count on B & J to have what I need and I don't shop anywhere else.

I love this store when i can not find what i need anywhere else. the staff is somewhat DIVA, but it is NYC! and if the fabric is hot, get it while you can... i had a buyer from BERGDORF's almost kill me because i wanted a swatch of the 300 yards she had put aside...so be prepared!

BJ's is the best. When I started classes at Parsons, BJ's was the store to get everything in designer fabrics. Most the time I was very lucky, in getting the last few yards of a runway fabric; namely, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren to make a suit and a coat. Needless to say, Fabulous! Sales staff are very helpful, but sometimes can show a little diva attitude, but guess what I'm an original Diva, born in NYC so that doesn't matter it all works! All in all, BJ fabrics is the best.

B&J makes me drool. They are crazy expensive, although the service is excellent and selection can't be beat. I was sad when they got rid of their amazing remnant section (and gave it to FIT students, lucky kids!) Paron Annex (on 40th street btwn 7th and 8th) also has some stellar fabric, and much of it is always 50% off. I love them. Got all the fabric for my three 10 foot high windows for under $500 (and that is for silk and velvet).

B & J is the best! The other one I like is NEW LOOK around the corner on 40th st.

I love to get fabrics in the fashion district when I visit NY. I like Mood for the price and selection. I like B&J for the wonderful range of fabric and color. From silk faille to chiffon to organza. From plain cotton to wonderfuly soft swiss cotton, I like that it is bright and well organized. Now, if only I had more money to get more fabrics, not that I have anything to sew, but just to have the materials.
