I think this is a great idea. I don't know for sure that the pup isn't a rescue, but it would be that much better if she were.

ugh. i have such a love/hate thing with puppies! i love them because, hello! they're puppies. i hate breeding dogs when there are so many strays, though.

still and all, she's delicious. i'll have to check them out; i need a pet-friendly couch!

French bulldogs are so adorable IMO, and if anyone is seriously considering having one as a pet, there are adoption sites concentrating only on French bulldogs. You can rescue a French bulldog for a fraction of a the price that they normally go for.

Looking forward to checking out the MG&BW store when I'm in the market for a new sofa, hopefully in a year or two!

Adopt people! Lot's of little rescue dogs need good homes.

I'm no PETA supporter, but the line: The plan is that each of the MG BW signature stores will have a mascot of their very own. got me thinking. In a worst-case scenario, I could see the care of a dog becoming part of employees tasks. You know, first one in feeds dog; 10 minutes later, take dog for walk; walk dog at 10 am, noon, 2pm, and 4pm; feed dog at 5pm; walk dog 15 mins. before closing; put dog in crate for evening.

I have no reason to suspect this is the case.

Even so, the dog would have companionship, company and stimulation all day long. More than most "loved" housepets can boast.

But I have confirmed, TwoLulu goes home each night with Matt. Lucky dog.

And as far as having dog care being part of store employee responsibility, I've had worse jobs.

Worse jobs? Yeah... once you've spent a summer (1981) at the LSU Rice Experiment Station in Crowley, Louisiana, washing mud off the roots of rice plants into screen buckets, and counting rice weavel larvae; and then about once a week capturing and counting copulating pairs of stinkbugs from the leaves thereof, you can pretty much tolerate almost any job New York has to offer.

I met the original Lulu this past summer....living rather crankily in the back of the MG & BW headquarters. Mitchell and Bob were both out of town.

I'd seen and heard of her for years, but was cautioned about trying to socialize with her...Her advanced age has apparently made her rather moody.

I too hope that this mascot thing isn't just a marketing ploy. There are way too many deserving rescue dogs out there in need of good homes.

ptoo and curtis - you don't know that we aren't equally fervent about the idea of adopting children. That issue simply hasn't come up on this blog.

Well the pedigree and/or provenance (or lack thereof) of this dog didn't really come up, either, yet the choir about rescue dogs certainly kicked in...

Dogs are pack animals. Two can make a pack. However, a continuous rotation of managers, interns, assistants, and other employees does not make a pack. Dogs w/o a pack may become poorly socialized, possibly like hdtex's description of the original LuLu.

And I have no problem with pedigreed dogs. That's how you get a dog with predicitable traits.

And a stay-at-home dog with one working owner and a dogwalker fairs better socially, how, exactly?

The description hdtex provided sounds to me just like an old dog, not a poorly socialized one.

I see your point, but seriously doubt this particular dog will have anything but a lovely, finely managed life ahead of her.

Britney and Lindsay were also finely managed, but had no master [i.e., parent(s)], and they've turned out just fine. Ha.

I'm sure the dog will be well-cared for and loved, and I still want a MGBW couch.

people on this site commented on cute this type of breed is, and ahving done research on teh subject, I know how expensive they are and how $hitty breeders can be. Why not get a purebred at a fraction of the cost?

MGBW has just put a spin on letting their store manager bring his dog to work. Doesn't sound any different than other NYC businesses and offices that allow workers to bring their pets to work with them. I have no doubt that this puppy will have a happy life and be well taken care of by the staff and by dog-loving customers.

I would love to take care of a dog at work!

My first thought was, that dog is NOT housebroken yet, what are they doing letting it sit on the sofa?! I don't know what fabric they're using on the furniture, but this could be a very good advertisement for its durability....or not.

My second thought was, I wonder if they would let me bring my puppy in? If so, I'd love to stop by and give TwoLulu a pet. That is one cute dog.

two lulu is very cute, she reminds me of my frenchie when he was a puppy. as for those people posting about rescue animals it is a wonderful thing to adopt but not for everybody.
