6_1_magic.jpgSolve your Ikea Hangover. We just recieved this tip for a new delivery service from Ikea. Sounds good. It's run by a couple, which makes us feel better already. Email them at MagicMushroomVan@yahoo.com. (Thanks, Elise!) MGR

Elise says: I ordered a heavy dresser that I would never have been able to carry myself had I mustered the energy to rent a car and drive to Ikea and it was in my apt the next day for a $50 fee. Best ever!

They (Jerry and Ajna) say: If you want us to make an ikea trip just for you we charge between $75 and $120. BUT if you are a bit flexible about when we go we can do it for half the cost ($35-60) because we can combine your trip with another customer and you are basically sharing the cost of our time/tolls etc. if you fill me in on the details of where you live & what you're buying i can quote you a final price for the trip. (combined or otherwise.)

I endorse them 100 Percent! I have used them for other light moves as well and they are very, very, very nice people. Dependable and friendly.

But will they assemble it? Isnt that the real question.

What, you all want to avoid going to IKEA AND you don't want the joy of the "some assembly required" experience?!? Amateurs!!! ;)

I think that they will also assemble. Jerry and Ajna (correct spelling) are extremely nice and offer a very affordable service. I have never had someone agree to help me move an item and be so dependable, PUNCTUAL, and flexible when my plans changed. They have helped me out greatly by working in a Home Depot pick-up and a chair pick-up in between or after IKEA business. Their van is very funny, because it is green and has the original mushroom-shaped bubble window in the back. They get a lot of 'Scooby-Doo' comments - but Jerry told me the van is incredibly well-built and reliable. It has been for me -

What a great idea.

I agree though, the worst part is the assembly.

i once came home from work and found my roommate, literally, in the corner of her room crying because she couldn't figure out how to put an ikea dresser together. the instructions for that piece were so confusing and complicated- and without any words. i think that's the only time, thus far, that i really felt like my engineering degree came through.

Sounds like a great service. I've always felt Ikea's delivery fee was excessive.

As for instructions, Ikea's NEVER have words on them - so that they don't need different versions for all the countries they serve.

That's why lego sets are a wonderful gift for children. When they grow up, they'll be well versed in building things with pictoral instructions.

Also, if you think Ikea instruction are challenging, try Bo Concept. It's a whole new level of complexity! They frequently require drilling and you must convert everything from metric (a 5mm drill bit is how big?) Still, as an engineer, I'm way to proud to spend the money for assembly.

If anyone ever needs help assembling, or wants someone to do the entire assembly of Ikea furniture, I can refer you to someone who enjoys it thoroughly, and would do it for a very nominal fee.

Something must be wrong in the universe -

I am one of the most technically-challenged people in the world, yet I find putting together IKEA stuff incredibly easy, so long as you have the right tools (an allen wrench and an electric screwdriver are all I've ever needed).

And trust me - I have a *lot* of IKEA stuff (*csting eyes downward in shame*)

I mailed these guys and got an automatic response back that they are no longer picking up/delivering from Ikea.

I found the same thing Jamie Sue. Does anyone have any new recommendations for Ikea runners?

Hello Everyone! I use a service called "A Man With A Van" operated by the owner Kerry. They do p/u's and Ikea deliveries and they are very reasonable in price compared to Ikea delivery. The # is 347-210-6722. As for assembly which I hate more than anything, I was reccomended to a real top notch service, EZ Furniture Assembly. The owner is Christopher and he is very helpful with any questiions you might have. All their work is guaranteed too. The assemblers are very professional and know exactly what they are doing. They have assembled an entire apartment for me and kitchen cabinets for my friend. They have a website www.ezfurnitureassembly.com. I hope the info helps.

this is an old post, so i don't know if magic mushroom is still doing their thing. i used them in 2005 to return lots of big heavy pieces to ikea left over from my cabinet installation. without their service, i would have been out about 300 dollars and stuck with trashing perfectly good materials.

THE MAGIC MUSHROOM VAN IS DEAD.

i've done everything i can think of to make it clear that this service doesn't exist anymore. posted notices on the site. asked former clients to do the same. e-mailed apartment therapy. I don't know how to say politely "PLEASE DON'T CALL ME ANYMORE," but...PLEASE DON'T CALL ME ANYMORE. and no, i don't know anyone else 'in the business' or have any recommendations.

i'm not trying to be a jerk, i just want to be able to sleep in on a saturday morning w/out my phone ringing off the hook about a service that ended in 2005.

please oh please oh please...
