Only a few movers get the thumbs up. We keep hearing about movers who a. cheap b. fast and c. honest, and do our best to weed out the truth from the merely enthusaistic. Truth be told, however, we rely on comments below to provide the final word. Here is what WE know about Rabbit Movers...

Reader says:

Rabbit Movers helped me move a large couch on the weekend, and it went by without a hitch. they're honest (a rarity in the business), no hidden fees, and will move your stuff in a jiffy. one hour minumum. 40 bucks an hour per mover.

Rabbit says (via Craigslist):

Call RABBIT for a worry-free move! Low rates and No Nonsense!

We're experienced, reliable, and fast!
No move too small! None too big! And none too weird!

We've got a BIG TRUCK!
We've got a BIG VAN!
And our little engines say
YES, WE CAN!

MUG says:

Rabbit Movers, 917.470.6221, in my opinion, will be the next Ziggy Vanz success story. Two super-honest, responsible and even more affordable guys named Sean and Steve who have a van or a truck or both. Steve does movie and video set moving so they're super-experienced and know how to handle your stuff with care.

These guys are great. My boyfriend and I moved on June 1st and they were very efficient and very careful with all of our stuff. Highly recommended!

I used these guys this week based on your recommendation to move some heavy things out of my old third floor walk-up and into my new one. Because I only needed a van, rather than a truck, it actually was only $60 for two guys for an hour, with no extra fee for all the walking up and down. They were conscientious, showed up on time, and did a good job, though one of the two guys seemed to be considerably more experienced than the other. I liked them enough so I am inviting them back to move more heavy stuff in for me this weekend. Definitely a good resource to know about.

Thanks for profiling Rabbit Movers on your site - it's one of the main reasons why I choose them for my 07/29/04 move.

I was extremely anxious about using an unlicensed, uninsured Craiglist mover, but just couldn't justify paying $850 to move a 1-bed 5 blocks (which is the average of other quotes I received). Rabbit has a dedicated reservation agent who only handles queries, estimates and bookings while the movers are out moving, so I could always reach a live person for hand-holding. How I hate moving. I went from a 4th floor walkup to a 3rd floor walkup with an extremely narrow hallway, but these guys worked magic with all my boxes - watching them load and unload was awe-inspiring. I hired 3 guys - a team led by an efficiency-master by the name of Carlos, with movers Phoenix and Stuart in tow (although, like the last poster, 2 of my movers were considerably more experienced than the 3rd). No-nonsense, no price markups, just $85/hour (packing materials, blankets and 3 movers all-included). These guys are super.

I wanted to update my last posting as my second attempt with Rabbit went considerably less smoothly. If the designated reservation agent mentioned above (an accented female voice) does not answer when you call, try again later rather than trusting the person who does. I confirmed my scheduled move with someone other than the reservation agent who answered the phone, but he apparently didn't pass along the message, leaving me stranded on the sidewalk outside my third-floor walkup with an armoire, a queen-sized bed, a sofa, and no movers. When I called Rabbit and they figured out the problem, the reservation agent seemed very abashed and said she would see if she could send someone over, though warned me they were very busy. She never called me back and didn't pick up when I called her. I had to throw myself on the mercy of a friend. Three hours later, after my boyfriend and friend had almost killed themselves wrestling the aforementioned armoire up two and a half narrow flights of stairs, she called to say the guys were on their way. Nice, but way too late, especially since she had never called me to tell me that movers eventually might arrive. Again, she seemed genuinely sorry and embarassed about what had happened and talked about arranging a discount for me in the future, but once again, has not called me back. Very disappointing and problematic. If you don't talk to her, don't assume that you have arranged anything.

[Hey SPAM alert for the post above this one Maxwell!]

I tried Rabbit because they had the best price and because of all the reccommendations posted here. It turned out to be a stressfull move. The guys they sent were not professional, just seemed like they were doing this temporarily. One of them was really bossy and reckless with my things. I hired movers because I didn't want to or could not do it myself and this kid made me and my boyfriend help (if I'd have known I had to help I'd have dressed for the occasion and not scheduled appointments afterwards where we should have looked presentable)! He was on his cell phone all the time while handling my FRAGILE boxes, throwing my rugs from India haphazardly atop piles. I was not comfortable and would not use them again. Try All Star.

To Emily & Sara,

The last couple months have been difficult for Rabbit Movers, and despite the best of efforts, we let a few people down. We’re regretful and sorry.

Through so many supportive customers, amazingly helpful sites like this one (to movers and movees alike), and our own hard work, we’ve grown a little. But, in growing, we’ve had some growing pains. I started this effort with an old van, a strong back, and not much experience. But early on I realized an important nuance of moving, and thought it was special. A household move often signifies a major life change. It’s the close of one chapter and the opening of another. It’s exciting, scary, and inspiring. It’s also very, very stressful. But for us- for the movers- if we pay attention- it can be almost magical. In the script of a life, there are chapters, and then there are the strange little spaces between the chapters. That’s where we spend our days. We’re with you between the chapters. We escort you and your belongings from your old home to your new one, and then we’re gone. Our aim is to do this with the grace and confidence of a Beatrice leading Dante from the Moon to the Sun, and with the same quirky cuteness of a Rabbit leading Alice to Wonderland. Our standards are absurdly high. But more often than not, we meet them.

In the past couple months Rabbit Movers has done some hiring, some training, and some reorganizing. Through this process mistakes were made, and, here and there, the quality of our service dropped. I take this very personally, and do all I can to remedy anything that might go wrong. We’ve since learned from these mistakes, and our reorganizing has settled. We feel confident that we will more consistently meet our standard of service. Further, I want to encourage customers to call our office if they become at all dissatisfied with their move. I’ll do my best to remedy or compensate beyond satisfaction.

A Big Thanks to Apartment Therapy and the Community it Serves.

Apology acknowledged and appreciated, and a couple weeks prior to this posting, Rabbit Movers did call me to apologize personally and offer me a discount in future. I haven't yet been able to take them up on it, but I am confident that it will all work out, and I am gratified by their eventual response.

I recently used Rabbit movers. The fact of the matter is that I still can’t believe the experience I had with them. Simply put, it was exceptional. They were on time, very courteous, and best of all affordable.

They moved my furniture from storage in West Orange, NJ, to downtown Brooklyn, NY. They handled my items as if it was their personal property. They delivered beyond what was promised and my best expectations. These guys are first class, and I can’t say enough good things about them.

I called some of the other movers listed here, and found Rabbit the most affordable. As a testimony to the quality of their service, my friend who was with me during this move, promised to use them to move his sister’s items from his house to her apartment. He said would neither consider renting a truck nor any other moving service. Mind you we are both professionals who deal with various movers in our professional life. These guys are just excellent beyond belief.

Finding good honest and reliable service is difficult in NYC. When one finds such service, it is wise to share and support it. In the hopes they stay in business for a long time.

Rabbit, please accept this truly heartfelt thanks, and I sincerely hope others read this and do not hesitate to call on your service.

Thanks

K.

I've been so reticent to use New York city movers in the past that I've enticed friends to help me move with equally price-y Mark Joseph steak dinners...however, I opted to go with Rabbit this time around and it was totally worth forgoing creamed spinach and filet.

While I was promised a truck over the phone two guys with a van turned up...my initial instinct was to cancel as I assumed I was being scammed into paying for multiple trips across the city, but we quickly agreed on a flat rate fee that seemed fair for everyone. They were quick and they were careful-I didn't even suffer any broken wine glasses.

I recently moved this month (July 1, 2005) and used Rabbit Movers for the second time. They were even better this time around - conscientious, punctual, efficient, and most importantly very inexpensive. The first time they got a bit lost getting to and from my apt, but I decided to call them again not only because of the price, but also because they were so friendly and easy going that they made moving much less stressful. I would definitely recommend them. They were helpful beyond just carting your stuff from one apt and dumping it into another - they help you arrange your furniture and Shawn even moved our fridge, plugged it in, and moved it back again because we couldn't manage to do it.

i dont think its normal to find the actual move part of moving fun. but in the two moves (and soon to be third) i've had with these guys, i would have to say it so. i think ultra hospitable is one of the first things that comes to mind, followed by professional, swift, reliable, friendly and all kinds of other adjectives you wouldn't think to use for movers. rabbit
movers is just good people. when i initially moved from dc to ny, i found rabbit movers via craigslist. the owner shawn moved me. i rode along with my stuff and he had a plethora of interesting topics and global adventure stories to share....on what could have otherwise been a long, boring and awkward ride. it was a good quintessential new york experience for me, and the rest stop simply complimented what ultimately ended up a rather stress-free move. affordable, adorable and very careful are also rabbit moversy type words i might use to vouch for their good work and style.

I used rabbit movers because of the reviews I read on this site. However, my moving experience was very unfortunate. I can't say I blame the two movers completely. They were nice enough, and 'professional' enough, but I don't think they were experienced enough. One mover was the lead, and he was pretty experienced, but the other guy wasn't at all. I guess I get what I pay for, but I ended up paying for three hours when the amount of stuff that I had (a bed & bookshelf & everything else was boxes, organizers etc.) really should have been moved in two. The most unfortunatey aspect was that I had a (pretty expensive) vintage bookshelf that was damaged. The movers may not have been at fault, I probably should have asked them to be more carfeul, but when they tilted the bookshelf on its side to move it, the leg snapped off. It was not a fragile piece of furniture, in fact the wood was quite strong, but it was also not a rectangular-shaped shelf. I can't helping thinking movers that were more experienced would have thought about other ways than the "normal way" to move something that was unusual in shape/structure. The movers did, however, move my roommate's couch down to the sidewalk - which was not a previously agreed upon task. But had they not damaged the bookshelf, I would have paid for the extra time, so my roommates were the only ones that benefitted from this experience. So not only did I pay an hour's more for the move, I also will have to spend (probably a considerable amount of) money repairing my shelf.

Rabbit Movers regrets that Ann-Lee's move didn't go as smoothly as we'd hoped. To compensate for her disappointment Rabbit Movers would like to fully refund the three hour move. We are also sending along a gift certificate for two to see The Wallace & Gromit Movie: Curse of the Wererabbit coming this fall! (or any movie of her choice)

If you have any dissatisfaction with your move, we encourage you to call the office immediately. Because... well.. in the immortalised words of the Beach Boys - "God only knows what we'd be without you."

I wanted to update my previous post to say thanks to Shawn and Rabbit Movers for their compensation of my move, it's a generous & personal gesture and shows that they do care about their customers. After speaking with Shawn and understanding that some of the things I thought I shouldn't have expected from the movers (experience handling odd furniture pieces/shapes, having proper tools around), he actually DID expect from his movers - this helps re-instill confidence and I'd probably consider using them again for my next move.

Rabbit Movers is the best. Carlos came to my apt early so that he could get 7pm parking. The way he moved, stacked, and loaded boxes was methodical, fast, kind and made me feel like I will be a smarter mover next time. Rabbit is good people who work with lightning precision and excellent prices. In NYC it is the obvious choice and they work on quick notice. I don't think words can do justice to what a great experience I had.

We used Rabbit movers last week. They were extremely professional. They called becuase they were running late and apologised when they finally arrived. Our elevator was down, but they didn't complain once about having to carry a 14' truch full of stuff up a flight of stairs. They were respectful of all our belongings. We were nervous becuase we just had a floors done, but Rabbit lifted all boxes/furniture/bags around the apartment instead of dragging without even being asked. The three movers were friendly, professional and FAST! We'd recommend them to our most paranoid friends.

These guys are incredibly professional, courteous, hard working and very, very careful. I used them last August and the quality of service and attention to detail was very suprising. Among other things they wrapped our leather couch very carefully and took their sweet time getting it down the stairs to avoid damaging the walls. As they were setting the couch down in the new place they nicked the hardwood floors and immediately offered to have it fixed, but it was minor damage so we left it be. Finally, it didn't cost me as much as I'd budgeted, so I gave them a $130 tip, and they deserved it. Strongly recommended and in fact when we move again next year, I hope they're available.

I have used Rabbit several times in the past few years for a veriety of things, including moving apartments a couple times, moving things in and out of storage and even called them for work a couple times. I have never had a bad experience with them. The movers have always been friendly, fast, and have treated my things very well. Moving is stressful enough and this is one thing less thing that I have to worry about.

DO NOT USE RABBIT MOVERS OF BROOKLYN NEW YORK. They were over four hours late. In my opinion, they were unprofessional and largely incompetent. One mover nearly started a fight with a neighbor. They damaged some of our things. They damaged the apartment building from which we were moving. They told us we would have an additional mover at no charge as compensation for being so late and then that additional mover left after 15 minutes and no one mentioned it to us until we noticed it. We ended up doing nearly half the work ourselves just to get the whole process over with in a reasonable amount of time, and they didn't feel that any of these factors apart from the damage to our things should impact the price of the move. NEVER EVER LET ANYONE YOU KNOW USE THIS COMPANY. IT WAS BY FAR THE SLOWEST AND MOST INCOMPENTENT MOVE I HAVE EVER SEEN. YOU COULD DO A FASTER AND BETTER JOB YOURSELF, OR JUST PAY A LITTLE MORE TO GET A MORE PROFESSIONAL COMPANY.

posted by JP on 2006-09-25 12:29:51

Rabbit Movers is deeply grieved and embarrassed by our lack of quality and professionalism through JP's move (see above). Anomalous as it was, Rabbit dropped the ball on this one. We've since taken steps back to review our quality control procedures, and the movers accountable have been taken to task. One of the movers present was called in by another who could not continue the job. This replacement was not authorized to be
there, and was not up to 'Rabbit' standard. This will not happen again.

Throughout this move, management was completely unaware of any dissension brewing. We had not become aware of it until the review above was brought to our attention. Though we're glad to know of it now, we regret we didn't know sooner. It is never too late to improve the quality of your moving experience with Rabbit Movers.
Be it the final chapter of your move, or the opening - we will do everything we can to leave you with the warm certainty that you and yours have been treated with nothing less than kindness, respect and professionalism. Please do not hesitate to call our office with even the seeds of concern. If our office is closed, please ask your
foreman for the owners cellphone number. I do my best to be on call through all moves.

With an aim to make amends, Rabbit has returned the full balance of JP's move. In addition, as a silly sort of peace offering, we've sent along an "Endless Bubbles" Bubble Gun because nothing relieves tension like blowing bubbles, chasing them around and popping them. Really..it helps!

I hired Rabbit movers to move our studio apartment to our new place 2 blocks away. They were recommended to me by a friend, telling me I couldn't go wrong with these guys.

We had a tight timeline (had to be done in 4 hours max) and they did a terrific job. They moved everything in 2.5 hours ;) It was 4 experienced and friendly guys. They wrapped everything that was fragile and we extremely careful with our stuff. Definitely the best moving experience I've had with New York movers. Very highly recommended.

i, too, had an unfortunate experience with rabbit. when i called, they said they had only vans available on the day i requested, and i listed my furniture to the person on the other end, who seemed to think the van would hold all of my stuff with no problem. after arriving over an hour late, it turned out that all of my stuff in fact didn't fit into the van, thus the amount i was quoted more than doubled due to the fact that they had to make two trips. also, to "expediate" my move, another man was sent partway through without my requesting him, which i was also charged for. i let the three take the van to my new place and move the stuff in without me supervising them, hoping that me not having to get myself there on the subway or by cab would keep them from having to wait for me and save time. they then left one of the guys there to "unload", though i'm not sure what he was doing because all the stuff was already out of the van since they brought it back empty and he certainly didn't unpack it for me. i was very disappointed, especially after several people had recommended rabbit highly. i can't say i would do the same. seems like they might not be able to handle their workload the same way now that they're getting popular.

On the basis of reviews here, I had Rabbit move me from my Manhattan studio to a Brooklyn one-bedroom a couple of weeks ago. They were fab. The quote was accurate, they were a few minutes late but called to tell me, and the three guys were nice, efficient, and cute (ok, not a deal-maker, but a nice bonus :). Nothing was broken and all was incredibly smooth, even with a teeny elevator on one end and two floor walk-up on the other. No surprises with the bill, really great service all around. I'd use them again, for sure.

I wrote a review of a very frustrating experience with Rabbit Movers (see above), and although I am not going to use them again, I commend the owners for responding to the posting and contacting us and then refunding the full cost of the move. This is more than I would have ever expected and speaks well of the ownership, so perhaps our experience was out of the norm. They also sent us a bubble blowing gun which was a nice touch. The main lesson I have learned from this is that apartment therapy is a very useful tool, and I recommend making your feelings known one way or another because it had a genuine and rapid impact in our case.

posted by JP on 2006-10-23 18:05:01

Though we are genuinely confused by Jessica’s review of our service, we are, regardless, sorry that she believes it to have been an unfortunate experience. As we hope is evident by the reports of so many happy experiences by previous customers, we always try to go ridiculously above and beyond the call of duty, so that moving doesn’t have to be stressful and traumatic and may sometimes even be a little fun. We took Jessica’s grievances with us very seriously and looked into the situation.

It is true that when she called just a few days before the first of the month, we had no trucks available. We often cannot accommodate last minute moves at the end of the month as these slots are usually booked weeks prior. According to the amount of furniture, etc described over the phone, her items should have fit into our van. Unfortunately, because we are a small company, we cannot find it in our budget to conduct an on-site estimate for every job. We, therefore, rely almost entirely on detailed inventories delivered by phone or email which is standard practice for most smaller moving companies. If the inventory described is incomplete, there is bound to be a change in the logistics and cost of the move. We are aware that prospective customers might inadvertently leave a few things out, or neglect some variable that might affect the efficacy of our service, and we account for this. When we schedule a van, we do it conservatively.

In this case, according to our movers, there were nearly two full van loads for this move. It is clear to us that the inventory described was incomplete. When this happens, we do all we can to continue the move as efficiently as possible in order to keep our customer happy, and to keep our schedule. In order to do this, we will often bring in another mover to help. This usually makes the move go faster and for relatively the same cost. ie. Two movers @ $70/hr for 5 hrs. is $350.00 while three movers @ $90/hr for 4 hrs is $360.00 This was explained to Jessica, and, according to our lead, she seemed to understand. Adding an extra mover was simply in everyone’s interest. Having this third mover allowed the three movers to unload the van into the lobby, and leave one mover behind to carry everything (a full van load of “one person” items) up one flight to the apartment. This mover worked diligently and had barely finished when the other two arrived with the second load. This was a good plan - efficient & sensible.

Jessica mentions that she did not join our movers for the first trip thinking that would somehow speed things up. As a rule, we discourage this. We always prefer our customer to be present so there is minimal chance for misunderstanding. We always prefer witnesses. Again, it is in everyone’s interest that the customer be present throughout his/her move.

We were an hour late for this move. Since 9/11 and increased security in the city, there are surprise vehicle inspection points scattered throughout the boroughs at any given moment. Their times and locations shift, so that they are unpredictable and unavoidable. When we were stopped at a vehicle inspection point that morning, our movers called Jessica and informed her. Again, according to our mover, she seemed to understand.

Jessica’s entire apartment was safely and carefully moved in four hours at a total cost of $341.00.
I am afraid that the misfortune here is that, though we explained, Jessica did not understand the rhyme and reason behind the logistics of her move. We will continue to search for ways to ensure that these misunderstandings do not happen again.

In response to JP’s last comments regarding the “genuine and rapid impact in [his] case”. His comments might lead one to believe that the most effective way to attract our attention and, thereby, compensation, for a move gone awry, is to post on Apartment Therapy. This is certainly one way, but the best way is to contact us directly and immediately. You’ll find this method has the most rapid impact on your moving experience. It also gives us, Rabbit Movers, a chance to make good before we’re left with a permanent negative on our “report card”. As a small business and a community based company, we are easily damaged by negative remarks. We’re not implying that one should not give a full and honest account - in fact - that’s what we’d like. We just ask that you give us a chance to correct our mistakes or explain our position before writing your review of our service. After all, the expediency and eagerness with which we correct our mistakes are an important part of that service. I continue to urge our customers to call our office with any anxiety before, during or after their moving experience. If the office is closed, ask one of the movers for the owner’s cell phone number. It should be obvious from the reviews and responses on this site that we are a moving company rooted in fair dealing and nothing less. Please give us a chance to prove it.

I am relatively new to NY and this was my first move in the city. Rabbit were really lovely, friendly and above all, when I asked them to move out fast, they did their utmost to accommodate me.

Reading the comments above, I think you have to realise that moving never is totally smooth, and that you should be thankful if you actually get from A to B in one piece and you aren't charged a small fortune. I had to help out the movers a little to make it happen on time, but I moved for $230 (UWS to Bklyn) and had a great time with this company. I would reccommend them unequivocally.

Thank you Rabbit :)

Rabbit - I liked the fact you had a girl answering the phone. She was understanding and organised - a good selling point for females as it made me feel as if I were in safe hands. I think she said it was her last day when I spoke to her - find yourself another lady of the same calibre fast!

I can only echo the positive comments above – all sorts of warm fuzzies for Rabbit, who handled my Manhattan-to-Brooklyn move so gracefully. On the phone, Erica was friendly and helpful as we went through the booking and inventory process. On the day of the move, Carlos and crew also were very pleasant (especially for an early Saturday morning!), and made a great effort to keep things humming along as quickly as possible. They wrapped and padded my furniture with care, managed to find a place for their truck on two challenging streets with relative ease, and perhaps best of all, the bill was totally fair and reasonable. Highly recommended!

I used Rabbit Movers last month for a small move, after reading ALL about them on ApartmentTherapy. I was impressed that they seemed to respond to the comments/complaints that people posted. Good customer service always wins in my book. Erica was very friendly and helpful when I booked them, and then I also received a confirmation call the day before. Mover showed up as scheduled, and the move went smoothly. Recommend them. I think many people underestimate the time/human effort involved in moving - even if you think you have the most spartan, monastic studio apartment it will still take twice as long as you imagine to move your stuff, especially in a city where parking is a perennial problem. Plan ahead, organize, and be realistic about your situation when explaining it to a moving company - then they can more easily judge how best to help you.

We had a great experience with our move with Rabbit on 8 February. The crew (Carlos, Kyle, Adam and Dave) were professional, friendly, efficient and took great care of our furniture. Everyone had a great attitude and did a great job. We will definitely use them again and have already recommended them to many friends. Highly recommended!

Just did a small move with Rabbit. They were fantastic! They showed up early, were polite and professional, and completed the job quickly and efficiently. Best of all, there were no surprise fees. I was really pleased with the experience and definitely recommend Rabbit!!

We just used Rabbit to move to Jersey City from Brooklyn and they were great. We had more boxes than we thought orginally and ended up needing an extra van and they provided one for us without a problem. They showed up on time, didn't break anything and were accomodating to our multiple changes to the moving date.
These guys, especially Sean, were friendly and hardworking. I would definitely use them again on our next move.

I used Rabbit movers for a move recently, and they were efficient, responsible and I would certainly recommend them to anyone. The movers were as nice as can be, were constantly in communication on timing, and handled every piece of furniture with care.

Would definitely use again! Thanks Rabbit!

Rabbit Movers helped us make a grueling 2-stop move and they were great! First it was hauling boxes and furniture from my boyfriend's manhattan apartment, then from my astoria apartment, and finally unloading everything into our new place (also in astoria).

The guys were friendly, professional, hardworking, and treated our stuff with great care. Their prices were fair and I feel we got more than our money's worth. It is refreshing to deal with such down-to-earth, no-bullshit people in an industry where you mostly hear horror stories. Rabbit stands out among moving companies.

We had a wonderful experience and recommend them highly. We'll use them on our next move without a doubt.

So y'all heard about that crazy storm this past Sunday April 15th? Nor'easterner? Well Rabbit Movers did an outstanding job moving all my stuff, keeping it dry and it good shape - and through a monsoon no less.

Forget about it! Hands down the easiest, smoothest moving experience I've had. Quick responses to phone and email messages and were even early (!) on the day of my move. (In the big storm, may I remind you?)

Reasonably priced, and super professional, organized and friendly.

Beyond highly recommended. Wouldn't move w/o 'em.

And kudos to them for the professionalism with which they have responded to some of the posts on here.

Today was my 2nd time moving apts with Rabbit and this year was even easier than last year (which was also very smooth). Awesome job by Dave, Kyle and ____ (I am so bad with names) - they were on time and we moved my entire bedroom in exactly 2 hours. Great attitudes, especially at 9AM on a Saturday! Gentlemanly, no BS, nice, normal guys - very important to me as a single girl moving alone. Very concerned with making sure all of my stuff arrived in 1 piece to my new apt. One suggestion - a confirmation call 1-2 days ahead of the move.

Thanks so much guys! Cheers!

Does anyone know if Rabbit Movers is still in business? I've been trying to get in touch with someone for about two weeks for my Aug move and have not gotten any response from my repeated voice mails and emails. I just tried to call again and their mailbox is full.

I really wanted to use them since MUG said they were good for small moves. I only have about a studios worth of stuff and didn't want to deal with a big mover.

Anyone have any suggestions?

i used these guys for a move when i couldn't get my go to guys at all star moving. they were just OK. overall way less efficient than the all star guys, i.e. much slower at packing and unpacking. but relatively nice and helpful. i would use them again maybe for a small move, but i prefer all star for larger moves.

i used rabbit movers last year, july 2006. my experience with them was pretty positive - the people were nice and careful with most of my belongings (just a few nicks on unwrapped furniture, and some mishandled boxes...nothing big).

on the other hand they were over 2 hours late & the move took longer than it should have - i paid a higher rate for 4 people so the move would be easier on all of us and go faster overall, but in the end it cost a lot more than originally estimated because everyone was tired out from an earlier move and the heat of summer.

this year i called on a service called the good move. they ended up destroying 2 pieces of furniture...they offered no apology and no compensation for the loss. both movers have previously done great jobs for my friends, but so far only rabbit has proven NOT to be furniture killers in my experience and for that alone they do get my vote!

I'm not shocked that Rabbit Movers are reading this post and these comments, but that they are actually responding to the gripes and offering some sort of restitution. With hopes that other movers and small businesses follow suit.

For me- these mixed reviews send up a red flag. I realize no business runs without a hitch now and then. But when you hear the words- late, inexperienced, etc. what good is an apology
and bubbles? I am in need of a good mover. I think I'll get a company with a better track record- with less excuses.

I decided to go with Rabbit Movers a month ago after reading the positive responses here, and there's no way I will ever use anyone else. They were nice, professional and worked their asses off, and finished the entire move (two apartments into one) in roughly three hours. Great guys who treated our stuff well. They were EXACTLY on time, too. Could not recommend more highly.

I underestimated the amount of stuff at the apt. But they were SO SWIFT and SO EFFICIENT to pack EVERYTHING so gently. Every movers were so friendly and very professional. I had to deal with several service people for this move and Rabbit guys were the BEST ever! I totally would hire them again if we have to move anything again.

Rabbit Movers are awesome. They were conservative with their quote and came in under - very smart - underpromise, overdeliver. Terence, Mike and Kyle were very professional - they all shook my hand. It wasn't a big move, only moved the following:

queen bed/boxspring/frame
sofabed
tv stand
2 office partition panels
office chair

Not a lot but considering that previously another company charged me more than twice as much and were less than 1/2 as professional. Great things should be said about this guys. They also moved a friend of mine with a lot more stuff. He was happy too.

The only thing is that I felt bad that I didn't have any bottled water to offer these guys.

Ran across this thread while looking for Rabbit's number for another job. First move last summer was great. I recall them being late, but anyone who schedules movers in the afternoon in New York has to have a realistic idea of what delays can pop in the way of a company like Rabbit. They were however professional and took care of my belongings and price was reasonable.

Now if I could just get them to call back today...

I called Rabbit on Friday needing to schedule a move on Tuesday. The guy on the phone was friendly and asked a lot of questions that made me feel comfortable that these guys were competent. They were able to rush through a Certificate of Insurance to my old apartment's management, which is no small feat. Rabbit is reasonably priced, professional and friendly. I'd have full confidence in using them again and I will recommend them to my friends and family.

Everyone knows that moving can be a nightmare. Now imagine having to move twice in less than a month? This is the situation I had, and Rabbit Movers made everything stress free. I moved with the help of my father and a friend on June 1st, only to find out that the building had a bedbug infestation!! Within two weeks, I was able to get out of my lease and find a new apartment. Some friends had told me about Rabbit and how good they were, so I decided to give them a call. They were able to schedule me in for an appointment that week! The movers showed up right on time and were super friendly. Most of the guys are involved in the arts in some way, so we had lots to talk about, being an artist as well. The guys got everything in and out quickly and efficiently. Did I mention how friendly they were? :) Anyways, there are lots of options out there, but I highly doubt you will find anyone as nice, reasonable, and reliable as Rabbit Movers.

Thank you DawllyLlama (see above post) and Rabbit Movers, I moved around the second week of June into my new apartment and discovered that I have bedbugs. My building has never had a case of them, and I am the least likely person to ever get them. Now I have spent time and a fortune trying to get rid of them and this has been the worst moving process ever, and the last thing I want to deal with in my new apartment. I have been trying to figure out where they came from and now I know the reason. If you had a bedbug infestation and used a moving company hopefully you should have really told them, and rabbit should have really inspected their truck and supplies. I wouldn't be suprised if because Rabbit movers didn't clean their furniture coverings or checked their truck i'm not the only one that has them. I wouldn't wish this on anybody else- it has been a terrible process and for that reason I would never recommend rabbit movers. If you use them be sure to cover your furniture with your own supplies- or with any moving company-a mistake I will never make again.

Overall, BAD. We used rabbit movers to do a 2 bedroom move from the UES to EV about a year ago. I regret using rabbit movers.

They were 45 minutes late, at 9:30 in the morning. It was the first move of the day.

One guy was a professional mover (burly and was hustling). The other two guys were unemployed writers. I said, "So how's it being a mover?" Guy: "uhh, actually I'm a writer but I don't have a job right now. This is my frist time moving. This company [rabbit movers] hires a lot of writers and artists." --NOT the sort of people I want moving my stuff!

They parked the truck 1/2 an avenue away to load because they weren't being vigilant about getting a parking spot. I suggested they move the truck closer or block the street and load the truck up really quickly. Instead they left the truck far away and had one of the writers stand around and watch it.

Moving in was to a 6th floor walk-up. I had 2 other friends come and help. I said, "hey can i have some buddies help...if we get this done faster, it'll cost less right?" "Yeah, no prob." My friends and I ended up doing the majority of the moving. The whole move still took more than 4 hours.

At the end I tried to get the rate knocked down because they parked the truck far away, the guys weren't real movers, they were late, and seemed to enjoy taking their sweet time. I said, "look, I took out X dollars in cash plus tip because that's what the person on the phone estimated. Your estimate is higher. Either you can cut me a deal or you're not getting a tip. Guy makes some phone calls. "Sorry, I can't reduce the rate, traffic is out of our control, blah blah blah, [insert bs]" If you want you can use a credit card to pay if that makes it easier and we can waive some sort of fee. I'm not sure what happened, but I ended paying the whole amount and tipping them a normal amount because I didn't want to be a dick to the guy's face.

Moral of the story: There are far better movers in the city, find another company!

In response to Alexh:

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to deal with a bedbug infestation. I imagine it must be a terrible experience. I can’t say much in our defense, but I want to share with you what we know for certain:

1. Dawlly Llama had nothing to do with your bedbug infestation. Dawlly Llama moved after you, not before, and so her good name is restored.
2. For the record, when we moved Dawlly Llama, she had just moved into her place and everything was completely wrapped with plastic and had been sprayed. We also happened to not use one of our regular vehicles for this move.
3. We regularly wrap all beds and sofas with plastic.
4. We have had our vehicles and blankets checked for bedbugs and found no indication of having them now or ever.

Rabbit Movers understands the seriousness of this issue and we do all we can to preempt it. We do ask that any prospective customer with even a hint of a bedbug problem let us know in advance. There has been an infestation in New York City since 2005, and we’ve been very aware of it. According to About.com, along with spreading through mattresses and sofas, “bedbugs often spread by hitching rides on people's clothing, jumping from host to host when people brush up against each other in crowds (yet another reason to keep your distance on the subway).” Apartment buildings and condominiums can be affected as a whole due to spreading of bed bugs through it, once one housing unit has been infested. Bugs travel through holes and crevices in the walls and through the medium of common areas in such buildings. In short, no one is more or less likely to get them. We should all be vigilant!

We sincerely hope that this experience is behind you.

Warm Regards,

In response to Gregh:

This review is a little difficult to address because the move apparently took place about a year ago and we’ve no idea who Gregh is. If you see this Greg, please contact us. I regret that we didn’t speak a year ago. I make it a point never to let a customer go away unsatisfied – but we failed with you and I’m sorry.

I don’t want to presume the details of the move but I feel compelled to mention a few things that might be relevant.

We may have been late, but there may have been uncontrollable circumstances that made us so late – such as a surprise NYPD truck inspection which happens now and then at random locations in New York and can take some time. I do hope that you received a phone call to keep you posted. If not, we did not do our job.

Rabbit Movers does hire mostly artists. This gives our company an interesting dynamic and a refreshing attitude toward the business of moving. Of course, we don’t hire just any artist and those we do hire are well-trained and educated in the art of moving. Our movers must be in good physical condition, they must present and carry themselves well and with integrity, they must be articulate, communicative, good humored, empathetic and honest. This is the character we look for, then comes attentive and strict training. I see no reason why a mover cannot also be an artist.

We never park far away from a door due to carelessness. If there had been a closer parking space, we’d have taken it. We are protective of our customers and aware that they are paying by the hour. We make every effort to find the ideal spot. We recently had a mover nearly run over by a disgruntled driver because our mover was holding the spot while our truck went around the block!

It’s very likely that the mover “watching” the truck was also packing it. There are some moving companies that do insist on having a mover sit in the vehicle to avoid getting a ticket. Rabbit is not one of them. For one of our movers to sit around and watch, the situation would have to be extreme. But if that’s what happened, we did not do our job.

A line in the Rabbit Handbook reads very simply, “Never let the customer move at a faster pace than you. If they do, bow to them.” That’s to say we take our speed and efficiency seriously and are not to be outdone, but if we are – those movers should be humbled and say something like “Wow. You rock. Are you looking for work?” and then offer profuse apologies about how they should have done better. If you didn’t get this impression, then we did not do our job.

Moral of the story: I don’t believe there are far better movers in New York City, but if there are, I don’t believe there are many who would beg you to get in touch with them to sort this out and find a way to right whatever wrongs there may have been.

Ask for me.

Warm Regards,
