No Sofa Too Big, No Door Too Small

We made a call and learned that Lionel Diaz has been doing this for 30 years (it is his sole business). He can take apart and reassembe sofas, sofa-beds, love seats (!?), and sometimes armoires. There is - literally - no door he can't get through. Lionel is used by Bloomingdales along with many big stores and you can read a great story about one persons experience at Mr. Beller's Neighborhood. (Thanks, M!) MGR

Here are some highlights:

"Oh no," he said calmly. "It's nothing. It'll take about an hour. You relax."
Relax? On what? They were about to dismantle my $900.00 couch.
A few minutes later, I jumped at the sound of sawing. It sounded like it was coming from my spare room. But that couldn't be happening, could it? I ran back to see the man, his booted foot braced on one side of the couch, using a hand saw to cut the wood of the frame. What was he doing? Converting it to a love seat?

We live in a WEIRD city if there is an entire sub-industry built around disassembling and then reassembling furniture just to get it inside!

Maxwell...

This is EXACTLY the kind of service I asked you about back in December... Thank you for finding out about this. Now I just need to figure out what exactly is entailed... those elvin lumberjack figures don't bode well if you ask me... I hear screw guns in the background.

You guys rock.

This is great, I've been looking around for sofas to fit within my doorway, and my apt has angles to get past getting up the stairs. And the axis couch from Crate and Barrel was just a bit too large.
I'll keep this service in mind.
Thanks!

also, North Carolina Furniture Showroom has a guy in the 914 area code that I've used a couple of times. very reasonable rates, maybe 200 bucks (?). it sure beat crying when your beloved sofa is too fat to get through.

I spoke to some salespeople at furniture stores and found out that, not surprisingly, disassembling and reassembling a piece of furniture voids any manufacturer's warranty. I'm not sure how important this is, but just something to keep in mind...

They recommend Z Bros. (914.769.3839) for disassemble and reassemble. Good luck.

I used Unique Furniture to disassemble, move, and re-assemble my sleeper sofa, and I was extremely satisfied with their work. The main guy, a friendly older man, has been doing this for 30 years, and he claims to have trained most of his competitors. He actually repaired a small defect in my sofa while doing the work! It is a noisy job, and my one complaint was that they did not show up until 8:30 pm for a 5:00 pm appointment, but the workers were very professional and extremely pleasant, and they did a fantastic job. Plus, they were reasonably priced. I recommend them!

I used All Furniture Services For my Sofa Disassembling as well as for my antique buffet restoration, they were great and very professional. They came on time, take care of it both times without any problem. I'll use them again. Highly recomending them: 888 575-6757 or 347-528-7777.
Forgot to mention I shoped around before choosing them they were also best in the prices.
I recomend them already to 2 of my friends and they are as happy. I belive their web site is: http://www.servicefurniture.com

We used Unique to take apart our new sofa – we called at 7pm on Saturday after discovering that it wouldn't fit up the stairs, and they called me back at 9:30pm! They asked a few questions (brand and model, fabric or leather), and gave me a price of $300 over the phone, which I think included a weekend surcharge. They arrived on Sunday when they said they would (called first to say they were on their way), and a couple hours later, our couch was upstairs and back together, looking like it had never been taken apart. It was awesome.
