My Great Outdoors: Janneke's Dutch Courtyard Garden

6-9-dutch-courtyard.jpg
2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gifName: Janneke Location: Arnhem, Netherlands Type of space: Private Garden in Shared Courtyard Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I wanted to create a colourful and happy place, for me and the other people overlooking the courtyard to enjoy, as a piece of art and a practical place to enjoy daily, also when it rains (which is a lot in our country). I was inspired by Gaudi...

How did you create it? I made made a plan with a concrete bench, a place for the hammock, plants, and a path of concrete stones, which I decorated with mosaic, with tiles, broken dinnerware etc which I have gathered from friends, family, and other people in the courtyard.

Recommended store, site, product or resource? Be creative, just start, and get informed about the right materials (glue etc). Be careful about the tiles used, make sure they can be outside and won't break in wintertime!

Now THAT is cool! This is going right into my inspiration folder! I love how colorful it is and it still looks so natural.

Very nice mosaics! That must have taken a lot of work.

very Dutch, making the most of a small space without over design or too trendy. In short it looks great and super charming.

I do like the cinderblocks as plant stands. And while I love the look of a bunch of tiny pots, I've found that they dry out sooo fast!

I really like all the mosaic work. Looks like a fun and relaxing place to chill.

Love love love love love. Everything about it! If I were forced to pick one thing, I'd say the way the color works with the mosaics and the hammock. But I also love the way you painted the urns; the collection of planters; the sculpture; the concrete plant stands;the red table and chairs; etc, etc, etc.

It would also be a great way to also use a lot of recycled glass/china/etc.
