apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#300 Thread Party!

We had a great time last night, AND we got to drink and eat a lot more because there were seven of us at the W Hotel bar last night. Chalk up the small crowd to a serious lack of advertising, but count on us doing more of these mini gatherings as they offer a far more intimate atmosphere and a greater chance to network and meet one another. If you don't like the party scene, keep your eye out for these opportunities.

We also took the opportunity to snap a few pics of a cool leather bound lamp in the lobby. This would be fun to copy.

So wish I could have been there!

Did you have a nice, Ursula-free evening?

Couldn't make it last night, but the mini-gatherings are a great idea! Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah, but how do you keep them "mini?"

Ursula was there!

How do they keep them "mini"? Easy ... no one could find them! I looked all over, and even asked the maitre d', who said that two other people had asked for the AT people, and he knew nothing about it. I made a special trip down there, and then it took me nearly an hour to get home from there, and the whole evening was wasted ... then, I find out that a group of seven was there, having a great time! It sort of reminds me of the one and only high-school reunion I went to: in addition to the big dinner, it was advertised that there would be a picnic the next day ... but only the cool kids were told when and where to meet!

But it was the finale of Project Runway! And the Mets were playing! I am so shallow!

Alan and I had a great time -- and, we were invited back, so we must have done something right! And yes (as SK points out), little Ursula was there too (behind Olga) and was a sweet, quiet little jewel!

Just let me know when you schedule one in Boston for the "ramp-up to AT Boston" bonanza. I'll be there!

Hey. Let me know the next time you get together and maybe I will be able to join you!

I read about it after the party had ended. I was sad. I will keep my ears perked for next time!

Jane,
I'm so sorry you couldn't find us! Maxwell had his Apartment Therapy hat on and we were seated right there in the middle of the lounge. Too bad - we're very sorry you made the long trip. Next time ask around, if you don't find us maybe you'll make some new friends anyway, who knows!

skgr:
I joked with Olivia and Bernadette (who were also looking for you guys) that it was going to be pretty hard to read t-shirts in that darkened lounge without getting up so close as to be considered a little ... um ... rude! I just wish the nice fellow directing people from the bar into the restaurant at that little desk there had known where to point me. I guess I should have kept asking ... and asking ... and ... you're right, I might have made some new friends in the process, anyway!

Jane, there is a horribly embarrassing story from the first informal San Francisco gathering, in which I failed to collect ebrown from the lobby of our meeting place for *an hour* because we didn't recognize one another's gang symbols or something. I am grateful that (a) she was patient about being found and (b) she forgave me.

Little searchlight hats that light up might be a good AT trend. Goofy, but effective.

Wende: Oh, how funny! Well, in retrospect ... I'm sure it wasn't at the time! I guess the old fear generated by college mixers kicked in, and I couldn't bring myself to start going up to strangers and asking... "Excuse me, are you, by any chance, the Apartment Therapy folks?" On the other hand, my current status as a journalist should have recognized an excellent opportunity to test the effects of a unique opening line!

Sorry, guys, to miss the occasion - especially sorry to miss a chance to see the litle Ursula.
Have a deadline at work, drawing millwork details like mad.

But I did pour little something in your honor, when finally got home.

Must have been a humonous, dark place. Yes, we must come up with funny glow-in-the-dark-hats or atleast an AT yodel for future get-togethers. :)

So envious of the lucky five who got to meet little Ursula.

Future tip, let the host know where the group is. The hosts at the W were super nice, and felt bad that we couldn't find you. Ironically, Bernadette and I were probably standing right next to you all for about an hour before our other friend showed up and we all left. We asked two groups of people that looked like ATers, and were wrong twice so we enjoyed our $14 cocktails and went on with our evening.
