I don't about everyone else, but I think every aspirational home should be all of the things suggested in the postcard--restful, casual, formal and gay. Seriously, that's a clever re-use of an old postcard.

Oh, Chucky. Just a little fun with dated, pre-'70s colloquialisms. "Gay" as in "Those Doris Day and Rock Hudson comedies were always so lighthearted and gay." Ahem...

Well, Chucky, I think Arthur Getter had all the fun decorating this room... I keep re-reading the copy on the postcard and it continues to crack me up. I'd sure love to have my "desires" and "special needs" catered to "with sympathetic interest."

"They" will laugh. Although I'm not sure Mr. Getter's creation would be considered "average" - looks a bit tony.

I have an amazing book called The Complete Basic Book of Home Decorating by William E. Hague from the late 60s/early 70s (multiple copyrights) - picked it up at a used book store for a buck. Full of b+w fotos, several color plates, all guaranteed to elicit gasps

I have a book called "Popular Home Decoration" by Mary Davis Gillies puplished in 1940 with both B&W as well as colorplates. My favorite is the before and after pictures.

He's my dad ,a very talented painter , and is so straight that he wouldn't get your clever in-you-end-dos.

Arthur Getter is my non-gay uncle and I remember that living room being beautiful back in 1962. My father owned the furniture store, and he wasn't gay either. However, Uncle Arthur's living room today no longer looks like that.
