Dept. of Hungover. Certainly, the sign of a successful party is when the room becomes packed with friendly, beautful people, plenty of drinks are served, awards, laughter and gossip get exchanged and you wake in the morning with barely a memory of how you got home.
That is how it all went last Friday at
The Hotel on Rivington (which proved to be true to its name as the most gentrification we had ever seen in such a small space).
When we first started having AT get togethers, it was a slow footed affair, but Friday we tipped into a whole new realm. Finalists and contestants showed up shoulder to shoulder with designers and vendors who were all in town to attend ICFF.
We just barely held the attention of the crowd long enough (due to an errant birthday party at the other end of the room) to thank our sponsors and introduce our top four finalists.
Brandon, Patrick, Paul and Robert all showed up with groupies in tow (Hillary sent regrets as she was away for the weekend),
Design Public showed up to herald their launch this weekend at Design Downtown, and
The Awesome Lane Johnson took photographs of it all. The party didn't wind down until after 10pm. Take a look at the pics and post your gossip below...
MGR
Owww... My head still hurts. That guy handing out the free drink tickets was an evil, evil being.
Loads of fun guys! Thanks! When's the next party?
What? Frank didn't show up?
Mia, don't you mean FRANK?
Hey! That's a Jamie Pup imposter!!!
A GREAT time...
thanks Maxwell and the AT folks for hosting such a fun time (and great contest). Great to meet (not-so-cranky)Paul, AT Paul, Brandon, Jamie Pup, Ruth, Mary and Robert. Looking forward to the next event!
Had a great time seeing everybody and meeting the amazing people behind Apartment Therapy. I second Patrick's comments, Great Contest and great people. Can't wait for the next event...and where is that drink ticket guy?
I can't believe I totally forgot! I would have loved to have met everyone. I am going to have to make it to Ruth's Stitch and Bitch one night to make up for it--and to finally start to actually knit something!
PS - That chandelier looks amazing.
everything patrick said. =)
and i am SO going to read paul's comments with a different voice in my head now. the old grumpy curmudgeon (sp?) is out! to be replaced by a young curmudgeon with no vodka in his drink. no. wait. no tonic. whatever - it's STRONG. =)
psyched for next party... and next contest!
fiona - more than one person was asking where you were. you blew the opportunity for a grand entrance. =)
everybody - i guess i'm the only one who can't get past pic 12?
fiona--
You were definitely missed!! And the chandelier, in true AT spirit, was greatly debated. But because we were all face-to-face (and slightly liquored up) it was all quite civil! ;)
I'm crushed I didn't make it. What a turnout!
Darn, I'm SO sorry I missed it. I took some cold medicine (though in retrospect, I think it was allergies) and was quite out of it--that, combined with a hellish work day, did a number on my memory. And my memory's not the best under normal circumstances!
Glad everyone had fun.
pic 13! 14!... just had to clear the cache.
Yes, rr, another of the notable absentees!!
(Along with Sara Kate, who was also definitely missed!!)
And go(Chris)go, the tablescaper?!? We missed you too!
whoa - didn't know I was so photogenic!
I think that was a friend of Brandon's who I, unfortunatley, did not get a chance to meet. He was wearing a track suit top (or whatever they're called over here) with England on the back so he could half pass for me.
I think the pictures really captured the essence, mood, vibe of the party (great job Lane). Thanks Maxwell and Paul (and anyone else involved) for organizing this and I will echo other ppl's comments here that Fiona was definitely missed, but I enjoyed meeting up with Mary, Ruth and Maxwell again and meeting for the first time Patrick (yay), Mike, Paul (not grumpy but friendly and laid back), Paul McKinley, Paul Logan, Brandon, Robert, and My Phuong (apologies if I spelt that incorrectly).
I look forward to continued discourse here (and like Mike - with a new prespective on some posters) and the next AT event!
Congrats again to the finalists.
I'm sorry I missed it. Maybe the next party can test the maximum capacity of my 186 square footage.
dibs on the hammock!
That was so fun, even if the THOR is a bit odd (what *is* the point of that ground floor space? Why didn't the woman in the bathroom at least *shut* the door, if not actually lock it?). The space was groovy and it was great to catch up with Mary, Jamie Pup (real not imitation), Max and meet Paul (from AT), Paul (cranky-pants), Patrick, Mike, Brandon, Oliver and whoever the hell else I'm forgetting because 1 and 1/2 glasses of wine are enough to do it for me on an empty stomach. I love these AT get-togethers, when's the next one?
I guess I have denability because there's no photographic evidence of me ever being there.
Oh and because I went on Fri. I was able to recognize Paul at the ICFF on Sun while he was being belittled by Italians who didn't realize he spoke their tongue. We walked around the show together which I enjoyed. It's always nicer to have another point of view. Paul, I'll walk any show with you.
Yeah, what Patrick and Ruth said. Good meeting up with you guys. We should do these more often...
Whew, after a few hours back at the grindstone, the hangover's gone.
Hillary, we were all sending you energy and hope to meet you at some not-so-distant point. It was great to meet the rest of you! And to run into Ruth!
The chandelier was pretty phat, I thought, but didn't realize there was a debate going on... sorry I missed out on that...
Sooo sorry I missed all the fun. I had initially RSVP'd but I strained my back mid-week and couldn't make it. Congrats again to all the winners.
Ruth--
You may be a "cheap date", wine-wise, but you were/are an absolute delight!!!
jimkk--
YES, another we would have loved meeting!!
paul--
We must have been debating the chandelier while your back was turned. Hmm, guess it wasn't so civil after all!!! ;)
Wait-- Faux-Cranky paul speaks Italian?!
I keep thinking of people mentioned at the party we wanted to meet... me of me inc, pphillipp, Met-matt...
OH, and Terry, and SG, and Chucky... We sooo need another party!!
Apparently, when I ran into him, FC Paul was being discussed by the Italians and how frustrated they were by his lack of business cards. And not guessing that apparently, yes, he speaks Italian. Whoops.
It's interesting to walk with someone else. Paul gets drawn in by furniture, funky new building materials while I make a stop at everything textile. And we are both suspicious of the woman who claims that porcelain doesn't hold dust. Come visit my bathroom, honey.
I forgot to come.
No, actually, I had nothing to wear. That people would not talk about, behind my back, that is.
sadly, pphillipp, we talked behind your back anyhow. ;)
I cannot believe I missed that party. It looks like it was a great one. Plus I would have loved to meet all my fellow AT regulars.
I second Pat(too), We need another party.
So sorry that I couldn't make it, was in New Haven at a friend's exhibition.. Looks like it was a bunch of fun though... where's the next party?
Missed? Forgot? Hell, I knew nothing about it. The best kept secret on the world wide web! Even if it were just for contestants I'm shocked that nothing leaked out on the blog. You guys are good.
OMG, I just looked at the dates of the posts. HAHAHAHAHA! Now that I realize what a fool I am could someone tell me what the prizes were?
