Just a small shout out and super short reminder to save a few dates: Apartment Therapy Los Angeles, hosted by Alec Holland, is going live the day we all return from Labor Day Weekend, September 6th. It will feature a familiar format, but a more Angeleno twang and sunnier California sensibility compared to us icy shut-ins here in the East.
Also, AT New York will be sporting new duds from this day forward as we show off our total redesign on both sites for the next year. Our aim is to make both MUCH MORE USEFUL and easy to get around, and to lure readers into REALLY USING our Stores Guide that we have spent so much time on.
So save the date: September 15th for a New York launch party somewhere downtown in Tribeca (we know where). More info will be coming very soon. MGR
Is there going to be an AT for Northern California? It's got a completely different climate and "culture" than LA.
Bring it! How about an AT-LA launch party too? (Or at least a get-together...)
*sigh*...ebrown, good luck getting an answer on this. i have asked this question repeatedly in the past, to no avail. i doubt anyone ever even noticed.
How about a little frontera flavor from San Diego? I already have some great finds to submit....
sooj, i noticed.
but please, oh, save us from norcal/socal snipery which __might_ arise.
i vastly prefer a "left coast" approach.
there's more similarities btwn LA + Norcal folks + culture than often made clear, especially amongst fabulistas + fringe LA...or upmarket, mid C obsessed LA...
(but i say bring on the AT, left coast: sparkling Vancouver + Portland to Mexico City....)
hey orangered, don't worry, you won't get any "norcal/socal snipery" from me! i love the bay area, but i grew up in socal & thus will always have a soft spot in my heart for LA. anyway, i like your idea of the "left coast" approach. we've already heard from san diego; i wonder how many more of us there are out there? enough to make it worthwhile, surely?
Mixed feelings, actually, about this. I'm VERY excited that there are growing pains, as opposed to shrinking pains. Since I really enjoy hearing from Enrique (his name just leaps to mind) and his fellow East-coasters, I hope there's a way to keep certain forums merged, while still being more literally useful for the Pacificians.
Oh, but I meant to say -- September 15th? With this much warning? Nothing could keep me away from that party!
The climates of Norcal and Socal are very different. The outdoor life is glorious in LA and environs. But you'll be wearing down on the same day in SF. Sun and fun in LA. Fog and rain in SF. LA is gold, blue ad red. SF is silver, gray, and pink. As to regional sniping? Nope. LA and SF are two of my favorite cities. But the light is different in each of them.
Curtis... Aw, that's nice of you to say! Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I always have an opinion or five. So you can count on me for continued soapboxing. The way I see it, this opportunity gives us one more site to visit each day--to enable all of us with our design blog addictions.
ebrown/sooj/shanna. I'm assuming the new site will be what we all make it. Yes, it will be LA-focused, but why don't you also look at it as the West Coast outpost for AT? Click the "contribute" button if you have something to share with the class. We're all hungry for new resources and tips. (PS I don't think the NoCal/SoCal sniping occurs that much anymore.)
Finally, since there doesn't seem to be an official LA launch party yet... I'm going to extend an invitation to any and all AT Angelenos to my birthday party on Saturday 8/27 at a sketchy Mexican drag dive-bar in Hollywood--Plaza on La Brea Ave (up the street from Pink's Hotdogs). [Actually, it's a co-birthday celebration with my buddy Jeffrey.] Be warned, this will be "LA fringe" in full-effect. So, don't expect a velvet-rope, Lindsay Lohan, reality TV folk, or the usual LA fabulous nobodies. The clientele here is a primarily Latin LGBT crowd with a sprinkling of brave hipsters. Plaza has 2 shows at 11p and 12m, featuring drag performers, male lipsynchers, and a sexy belly dancer for the ladies. In addition, Jeffrey and I have hired a fire-breathing post-op transexual stripper (Alejandra from Jumbo's Clown Room) to add a little spice to the show--seriously. (We also met with Rip Taylor to host the party, but unfortunately that fell through!) Think "From Dusk til Dawn" meets a Pedro Almodovar movie... If anyone is interested, email me for an invitation. Presenting the invite at the door waives the $5 cover charge. Our gang will be seated in the center tables in front of the stage...
come on California. Just be happy we're gettin our own AT site at all, stop whining.
