apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Auction: The House of Versace

Just last month the contents of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent's Paris apartment were auctioned off, and today the furnishings of Gianni Versace's Lake Como villa will be auctioned off by Sotheby's London. Sotheby's has painstakingly recreated Versace's residence within its London location in order to display his collection in authentic surroundings. The interior of Villa Fontanelle, which was sold last year, emphasizes Versace's obsession with the classical world; the neoclassical furnishing, busts, paintings and reliefs filled the Villa.

The auction estimates from the 550 object span a wide price range from £100 to £100,000. Sotheby's told the Guardian that they do not believe that buyers will be limited to the very rich. For example, some of Versace's terracotta figures are estimated at between £50 and £100. So if you want to bid, all the auction information is here.
