Welcome to August! Last year we featured reader's summer hideaways and while we'd still love to see cool design and interiors from summer retreats, we're not making it an official theme NOR are we running a contest. Instead, we're cooling our heels, enjoying the month and using the time to get back through our emails and find all the good stuff we've missed.
Oh, and we're also holding our friendly LINKS DRIVE this month, which means we're inviting all our readers with blogs or websites to exchange links with us and boost our rankings together. If you are interested, read about it here.

Other: An apartment swap for all those places. I'd include hot, abandoned Paris.

Speaking of apartment swap, I've always been open to doing this with someone. I found a few websites, but I'm not sure how one goes about it. Craigslist seems 'iffy'. I've seen those house swaps, most of the photos of their space makes me cringe.
Anyone know how this works? Any good links?

Other: The air-conditioned, freshly-cleaned apartment.
Thank you Melinda. I was going to say, the dim apt with good movies and a super powerful AC.
My answer: in my little urban oasis of a loft, with the AC cranked!
Oh.
Wait. I don't have AC. CRAP!!!
Please August, please fly right by! (I'm dreaming of autumn)
This place has worked great for me http://www.nyhabitat.com. They found me a great little place in Paris right next to Les Halles for 600 for 2 weeks.
Other: Snowboarding in the southern hemisphere.
I think Rob & I are in the same boat. The heat index is at 105 for Boston... *sweats*
i miss my old loft's rooftop garden... it faced west (from LIC, queens) and had the most beautiful view of midtown manhattan. best place ever for pastis and watching the sunset.
this summer, unfortunately, my respite is my icily air conditioned office. good thing i love my job...
New England lake house. W/ a dock, a canoe and a sunfish. Heaven.
ANYWHERE BUT HERE.
Sooooo digusting here again today in NYC.
Too hot to spell properly... "disgusting."
Paris really isn't so bad in August... it's actually quite pleasant with most Parisians at the beach. ALso, we're in the mid 20degCs for the rest of the week.
